Weekend Warrior Summary: Great ride!!! My wife and I parked at the Creeper Trail Bike Shop in Abingdon and they shuttled us to Whitetop for an easy ride through some of the most beautiful country anywhere. Don't be in too much of a hurry to stop and look at the scenery. There was such variety in riders from the really old dude in tights to the young'uns in jeans, so don't worry about your skill level as no skill is necessary for the ride from Whitetop to Damascus. If you ride the entire 35 miles to Abingdon you will need a little stamina. The ride from Damascus to Abingdon is a different ride than the first leg. It is from level to slightly uphill all the way and the country side is a different world than the first part. The entire ride took 5 1/2 hours and we even stopped for an hour at In the Country for lunch. I don't think it was too bad of a time for a couple of newbies(only been back into riding for a month) but i will put off the second half of the trail 'till I get my legs in better shape.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Stay away from the creeper trail on the weekends. Overweight, inexperienced riders are bused to the top and come careening down the mountain. It's dangerous and many riders are loud and inconsiderate. It's a great, beautiful ride up if were not for all the noise a traffic. Recommended Route: Damascus to White Top Station. Other recommended trails in the same area: New River trail is much better. Brush and Gap mountain in Montgomery County

, from Cypress, TX Summary: We all (2 adults, 11 year old girl, and 8 year old boy) road part of the creeper trail in the afternoon after a tough morning on the Iron Mtn trail. We did about 6 miles east from Damascus and back. Yes, like all rail trails its flat and easy, but unlike many, it has much more scenery and diversions like bridges and narrow, tree-shaded sections. It was a good recovery from the morning ride, and we topped it off with ice cream back in town. Highly recommended. Recommended Route: Go east from Damascus (things are less scenic and continuous to the west--but do stop and see Abingdon) Other recommended trails in the same area: Iron Mountain--for the real thing.

, from Lebanon, VA Summary: Girlfriend and I rode this route yesterday for the first time. 17 miles up, then back. Elevation change from 1930 feet at Damascus to 3576 at Whitetop Station. While I won't call the ride up brutal, it was "taxing" at the least, lol! Makes you appreciate the ride down even more. The ride up took about 3.5 hours and back down was about 1 hour, 40 minutes. We've only been biking for a couple months, but this was the funnest ride yet. Recommended Route: From Damascus up to Whitetop Station then back. Other recommended trails in the same area: Guest River Gorge in Coeburn, Cranesnest River in Clintwood, Sugar Hill Loop in St. Paul.
