Cross Country Rider Summary: Almost all singletrack, most pretty smooth, and with lots of climbing and descending. It will test your fittness and braking skills, and your ability to link turns together smoothly, if not your technical rock and root skills. Recommended Route: I decided to park in East Burke and ride to the mountain and I'm glad I did, since the route over has some of the best riding in the area. Park at East Burke Sports and head north by taking the White School trail (flat but technically challenging) to Upper or Lower Pond loop (avoid White School along the river because its a boring dirt road). Then take Nose Dive to White School and cross Rt. 114 to Moose Alley, which in this direction is a long, winding singletrack climb (you'll descend it on the way back), and the best trail in the Kingdom in my opinion. Once at the top of Moose Alley work your way over to Burke Mtn on Magill Feilds and Pinkham Road. Avoid North Pasture, which is a long, boring slog on overgrown dirt roads and ski trails. Take Upper Magill to the ski area and ascend on Camptown, which is a new trail not on current maps. It starts at the campground and parrallels the toll road, twisting and turning as it does.
Once you're finished on the mountain head back to town the same way you came, definitely descending on Moose Alley. Other recommended trails in the same area: Bee Sting and J-Bar. I didn't ride them but they were recomended. Also Kingdom Trails in East Burke (see my review).
