Gas Can
17 reviews
 4.35 of 5

Depending on which way you ride this trail you will see why it's called the Gas Can. The trail is a sick amount of switch backs that work their way up the mountain if you start at the bottom. This trail really uses all the available land to create a very long trail in very little space. It will take 15 to 20 minutes to ride this either direction, from top to bottom or bottom to top. If you like to climb then start at the bottom near the trail entrance otherwise stay on the class 6 "road" and cimb the straight easy section till you get to a "Y". Just before the "Y" you will see a trail entrance call "Super Highway". This connects to the gas can on your way back down. Great ride, some good technical sections. The trail in truly a single track and has lots of short "power climbs" and tons of technical switch-backs, rock crossings, etc. For more technical single track bear to the left at the "Y" on top of the hill and look for a trail breaking off to the right. There are trails in here called: High Roller, Sock it to Me, No Fat Chicks, Magic Carpet, Bob's shortcut. All are really fun with ratings on the sign as to difficulty.

Trail Directions
From I89 take exit 4. Turn on to rt 66 west. Head into the town of Randolph. When you get to the intersection of 12A and 66 you will see a Cumberland Farms gas station on the left. Go straight. On the other side of the intersection as you are going straight you will see the "Bicycle Express" bike shop. I think Don is the owner, he knows lots of single track. But keep going straight. The main road will bear to the left. You will want to go straight up the big hill. At the peak of this hill, when you are on top, you will see a dirt road to the right. This is Stagecoach Road. The trail starts at the tree line where the fields end. To enter the Gas Can head up the trail about 100 feet. There will be a little sign saying Gas Can on your right.

Summary:
To all those needing info/maps for the Behn land trails.. surf yourselves over here: http://www.bikerag.com/images/MAPS/vt_gas_can_behn_land_review.htm there's a map of the trails, although basic, but it works. The trails are really easy to follow and hard to get lost on. Enjoy your journey on these great trails. The house being built (probably finished now) is Zac's, he's the guy who built the trails. Stop on by, he's friendly and loves to talk bikes!

Summary:
The trail "gas can" is closed, but the area is called Behn Land. Please respect landowners rights. If you chose not to, then more of this great area could be closed. Please help to keep it open and only ride on open trails. There are many trails here that are fun and flow nicely. Good technical sections. Most trails are marked with colorful names. Something for everyone.

Summary:
These trails are still sick!! Just rode them yesterday. Bumped into Zac on top of the hill, building his new house. If you ride up there, you should swing by and chat with him, he's a great guy! He made some new trails out of his front door that should be SICK once they get ridden some more..its great that he found a piece of property so close to the trails!!:)

Recommended Route:
Zac's new loop, No Fat Chicks, Sock it to me, X-files, Superhighway... etc..

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Stock Farm, Mericastle
