Burlington Intervale
2 reviews
 2.5 of 5

I had heard lots of comments about the riding in the Intervale and read in many guidebooks that it was a good, easy trail. I was a bit let down. The trail is basically an old dirt road through some public & private gardens. Eventually it turns into a dirt footpath that winds along next to the river. I figured I would follow the main path and then double back to investigate the numerous spurs. Well, before I knew it, I came to the end, and the path became paved, leading back into the city. Upon further investigation, _all_ of the side spurs were marked as hiking trails only: No Bikes. I suppose it would be a nice place to take your kid, or for someone who wants a very mellow ride. The scenery is very nice and it's not crowded at all. Unfortunately, that's not what I was looking for.

I started at the bridge between Winooski and Burlington. Follow Riverside ave up past the Sunoco and take a right at the light. Follow this road until the gate, marking the beginning of the trail.

Summary:
this really isn't a mountain bike trail. its a smooth path along the side of the river.

would be nice for absolute beginners or young children to introduce them to the dirt.

i typically use this as part of a larger route following the intervale all the way into ethan allan park, then burlington high school, then along bike path to jims woods and back into town.

Summary:
This whole route connects a lot of Burlington. It's a great area to take your cross country bike in. It's not long and it does not have tons of trails but it is fun. It's also senic offering nice views of Burlington, Winooski, and the lake. There are quite a few trails around the Ethan Allen tower to play around on. The intervale also has some nice biking and walking trails.

Recommended Route:
Start at the Intervale. Next go through the trail which goes from gravel road to single and double track. Then it goes to gravel trail and back to doubletrack. Finnaly, the trail becomes paved. You will see a highway ahead of you. You should go right on the paved part. Follow the trail accross a bride over the highway. Continue onto a smaller paved trail through the woods. Take a sharp left after a really steep part of the paved trail. Now you are near Ethan Allen Tower. Continue up the paved trail until you see a sign for the summit. This is a super steep trail up to the summit. At the top you can take many different trails all around this small area. It's pretty neat, but very small.
