Summary:
There are some great trails here. They are hard to find. I suggest getting a tour to make the most of your time. Don't come if it's been raining. Check out Irie cycles for trail conditions and info as they are the local Stowe area bike club representitives. Greenmountainbiketours will get you some great riding, but most of it's on private land and therefore we are not into just sending people out. Hook up with a group heading out or get a tour. We are nice enough people if you respect our network, don't ride in the mud, are nice to other trail users, and aren't a jerk in general. Steve must have not been doing one of those things if he got hassled. To be honest, we would be happier if everyone went to New Jersy to ride, they have some great trails...but if you wanna come up and check it out there are some gems here.

We ran into some locals who were NOT very friendly. One of my friends came very close to getting in a fight with them. I guess they don't like to share their trails.

directions sre good. this trail is referred to as Tony's and if you head up west hill rd. instead of weeks hill and poke around at the top of the climb it is much longer and drops you off onto weeks hill rd. after a sweet techie bridge drop by Aj's house. This is not a new trail, there are however many new sweeties back by and through Zogz and Upper Charlies.

Summary:
To the folks from NJ and MA....whew! I'm glad you two didn't like Stowe. It's cool with us. More room for us locals. So, stay in MA, or NJ, or whatever flat, paved state you're from, and ride there.
As for the Maple Tree Run....it's simply excellent. But you'd better bring your lungs. There is climbing...and plenty of it. Roots. You betcha! Mud...yep, some of that too. Make NO mistake, this is a pretty technical ride. Those who love that kind of thing will still be challenged here...and of course, love it!
You're also going to want to leave your self plenty of time. Start in the early part of the day. There are plenty of trails to explore on this section of the mountain (keep in mind however, that some of this land is privately owned...treat it well, while the land owners let us ride it!). For you out-of-towners, don't be afraid to grab a map, or even a GPS. It IS possible to get a little lost out there.
I ride this loop about 2 to 3 times a summer. I'd ride it more...but there are SO many other good places to ride. Not just in Stowe, but all over VT. I'd really recommend riding Maple Run during the fall season. The views from the top are just wonderful.
