Mill Canyon (not Mill Creek Canyon)

This is probably the most technical downhill in American Fork Canyon. There are several very steep loose twisty sections that will either keep you on your toes or force you to your feet. It is quite a challenge just getting to the trailhead since there are many brutal climbs before you see any noticeable downhills, but once you do start down, effort will have been worth it.

Trail Directions
This trail can be accessed directly from Tibble Fork Reservoir by crossing the creek as it enters the upper end of the lake. However, this is a huge uphill grind. It is most often ridden from the Ridge 157 Trail. From the Summit of the Alpine Loop, continue several miles; passing turnoffs for Mud Springs (which deadends into Mill Canyon about 3/4 of the way down) and Tibble Fork Trails. Once the trail dumps into a double track, Continue north (leftish) on the double track. At some point a distinct left fork off the double track will lead you a couple of hundred yards to the trail head.

Scary fast and sometimes scary slow as you pick your way through technical stuff. The trail is continuously steep and sometimes loose. Ride with caution, or throw caution to the wind depending on your skills and the section of the trail.

It is Awesome!

Aerobic difficulty is a 4 to get to the trailhead. If you decide to climb it, there isn't an aerobic number high enough to describe it.

Recommended Route:
Pick up Ridge 157 and go north. Ignore all turnoffs until you hit the double track mentioned above. Once you start down Mill Canyon, you have only two choices. Bomb to the bottom at Tibble Fork Reservoir, or about 2/3's down take a left on Mud Springs. Mud climbs up and drops back down to Tibble Fork Trail (about a mile). The choices are up to you from there. There is another trail or two on the right, but they are extremely steep hiking trails. AVOID!

Ridge 157, Mud Springs, Tibble Fork, Deer Creek South Fork, Timpanooke, the list goes on and on!!!

This trail was re-routed in 2009 it is now an uphill friendly trail. Not so much a downhillers delight.
