Cassidy Trail
1 reviews
 5 of 5

Cassidy Trail is a more difficult, more remote version of the famous nearby Thunder Mountain Trail. It's on the north side of Utah Hwy 12, whereas Thunder Mountain is on the south. Park at the Red Canyon visitor center, ride east on the bike path about 2 or 3 miles and watch for Corral Hollow Road (FS 121) going north from Hwy 12. Take FS 121 north about 4 miles to the intersection with the Fremont ATV Trail (FS 120). Go north about 2 miles on FS 120 to Casto Canyon Trail and turn west on Casto Canyon Trail. About a half-mile later you'll see a junction sign and Cassidy Trail will begin on your left (going south). Ride 8 or 9 difficult and strenuous miles on Cassidy Trail back to Hwy 12, then go west back to the visitor center on the bike path. Cassidy Trail is all singletrack and has numerous challenging short power climbs. Pick up a map at the visitor center and note where it's possible to go on Rich Trail toward the end of Cassidy Trail and shorten the ride a bit.

Summary:
This is one of the better trails I've ever ridden in the United States. It's hard (really a 4+ aerobically) but every bit as beautiful as the more famous Thunder Mountain Trail, which is in the same area.

Recommended Route:
As stated in the description: up Red Canyon paralleling Hwy 12 on the bike path to FS 121 to FS 120 to Casto Canyon Trail to Cassidy Trail. The extremely fit might enjoy doing Cassidy as an out-and-back; that way you'll experience its magnificence twice in one ride. I wouldn't do this ride on a singlespeed unless you're qualified for the next Olympics. That makes it very much unlike Thunder Mountain Trail.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Thunder Mountain Trail, obviously.
