This is a highly technical, hard workout. It continually climbs into slickrock hills. Gooseberry is easier. The riding here is amazing, beautiful Mohave desert. Ride early in the year, elevation only about 2500'.
If you're a great rider, come here. Rocks, rocks and dirt, expect to sweat from the steep grades. Didn't see a soul on the trail but it's 5 stars. The distace is hard riding all the way.
Summary: This trail is a good mix of SW Utah trail types. It has a healthy dose of technical riding, including significant slickrock portions, but mixed in with some relative fast and flowy sections with opportunities for air. Zen is well engineered, not too wide (please help keep it that way!) and has fantastic views to boot.
Starts off with a moderate fireroad climb which becomes doubletrack and then singletrack. Some rather slabby, technical climbing followed by up and down ridge riding and finally a relatively swoopy descent with some tech thrown in as well.
Definitely a recommended ride.
Recommended Route: Counterclockwise
Other recommended trails in the same area: Bear Claw Poppy (which you can see nearly all of from Zen), Gooseberry Mesa, Guacamole, etc
