Overlook Trail
1 reviews
 5 of 5

This trail follows the northern rim of Rabbit Valley and the Colorado River. Great views and fun intermediate rock challenges every few hundred yards along the trail. No big climbs or descents, but quite a few modest ones to keep it fun without any killer workouts. It would be about 3 hours if you hammer it, 5-6 if you want to stop and smell the cactus or aren't crazy fit. Motorized vehicles can use it, but it's not heavily used and other than quite a few small motorcycle whoop-dees (which aren't bad), it's in good shape.

Summary:
Wonderful cross-country trail. Great views, remote (we didn't see a single person on a May weekday), fun challenges. We saw beautiful flowers and 2 large Bull snakes, but the main attraction is the spectacular valley and colorado river. Rock features are intermediate in difficulty and plentiful enough to keep this ride always interesting for skills too. Routfinding was mostly easy even though our map wasn't quite right because you can always go toward the rim to find the trail. You can take it easy for a long ride, or hammer it for a workout.

Recommended Route:
You can drive to the trailhead at a primitive campground on the Kokopelli trail near exit 227 in Utah, about 20 miles from Fruita CO.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Fruita, Moab
