Cross Country Rider Summary: Great loop. Not real extreem but the cows keep it pretty choped up. I was on a hard tail and felt it. Leave some time to play at the trail system at Snow Basin. Recommended Route: Same as mentioned above except I made some divation a ski resort. The have a different number system than the local map available at the bike shop.

Weekend Warrior Summary: This trail is a great mix of moderate climbs, technical turns, and rolling single track. It's also a visual splendor spring, summer and fall. The dirt road up Wheeler Caynon provides a good warm up for the gradual ascent to lower strawberry. The single track down through the Maples is a blast. Soft rolling trail all the way back to Art Nord. It's a great trail for intermediate to experienced bikers. It can be muddy in the early spring and you will, at the very least, see a cow. Recommended Route: Start in Ogden Caynon at the Wheeler trail head and climb to the parking lot at Art Nord. From there you cross Old Snowbasin road and pick back up on the East Fork trail. The single track winds its way back west toward Snowbasin. As you near the top you'll come to a fork in the trail. Stay left (right takes you down the middle fork trial which is a killer descent) and continue to climb until you hit the new Snowbasin road. You'll cross the road there and pick up the Green Pond trail. The trail climbs gradually and is full of switch backs. As it starts to straighten out you find yourself in the lower portion of strawberry basin. This part of the trail is extremely rocky (think cobblestone)until you drop back into the pines as you begin to traverse toward Snowbasin. Traverse accross the lower section of Snowbasin past John Paul until the trail hits the dirt road that leads to Maples camp ground. Just before you reach the camp ground you'll see that the trail breaks off to the right and again turns to soft single track. This descent takes you back to Art Nord where you can go back down Wheelers. If you like technical, break leaft in the canyon before Art Nord and enjoy the Ice Box. Other recommended trails in the same area: I love the Ogden bench just on the other side of the mountain. 12th st. to Beus Caynon.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Maples is a pretty good trail. The drawback is you have to start with a couple miles of dirt road (not open to vehicles, fortunately). Then, the start of the Maples trail can be ridiculously sandy. After this, it's money. Semi tecnical ride up with occasional vies of Mt Ogden. There are parts where you can really rip on the way back down. Even so, for singletrack purists, there's not much reason to come here when the Skyline trail is right across the pass. Other recommended trails in the same area: Skyline Trail (North or South).

Cross Country Rider Summary: Local bike shops have a Weber county map that has some good ideas for this trail. The first time I rode it I did the east and middle fork loop, which is a great loop that continues across from the parking lot at the top of Wheeler. It drops you across the street again so you can head back down the singletrack that meets up with the Wheeler fire road. My favorite thing about this trail is that once you start on your way back down, it is all down. A great climb for a little mileage with a gratuitous descent - there are more difficult trails but this is a great workout once or twice a week. I have seen moose literally every time I've been up there, thank goodness they're a little skittish. If you do take the east fork loop, take water - it is exposed and dry, even in April/May. I have to admit Maples is prettier, but the downhill on the loop was smooth and exhilarating (clockwise), with beautiful shady areas. Happy trails and I'll see you out there Recommended Route: Try it a few ways and from different trailheads. There's lots to see! Other recommended trails in the same area: try them all
