Wasatch Crest

The defacto Wasatch Classic. The official trail offers 5 miles of alpine singletrack, at elevations up to almost 10,000'. There are plenty of technical challenges, a couple gnarly sections, and gorgeous scenery of the high central Wasatch peaks. From Guardsman add 2.2 miles of steep climbing up a loose jeep road (1200' gain), before you get to the actual singletrack. From Mill Creek Canyon, once you get up to the Crest via the Great Western Trail, it is almost all uphill for 5 miles to the turnaround point. This trail is best done either by shuttling to the Guardsman trailhead (for wusses that don't want to suffer) or as a loop with massive elevation gain (4000+ vertical) using other trails in the area.
There are a couple options: Either drive to the top of Mill Creek Canyon, and pedal up the Great Western Trail to the Crest, or start from Guardsman Pass, and park at the switchback where you see a logging road lead off on the west side of the switchback, park and start riding from here.
Trail Length
10-20 miles depending on route, trail itself only 10 (out and back)
Summary: This is a great trail that has plenty of trail through the trees, and some uphill on the first portion, just to keep you honest. My friend and I shuttled our cars, parked one at the Wasatch Crest beginning and one out of the trail past Dog Lake, right on the main road of Big Cottonwood.
The ride is great, we saw moose! It is now September, so at this altitude make sure you either wear long sleeves or go in the heat of the day, because by the time we finished it was 55 degrees.
Oh yeah, and if you are shuttling, don't forget your keys, I did and almost had to ride the entire way (6.2 miles) back up the canyon, but we lucked out by chance, some nice people at Silver Fork Lodge gave us a lift to our car.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Pipeline Trail in Mill Creek Canyon is awesome.

Summary: Hands down the best trail I have ever ridden. Climbs, descents, smooth singletrack, rocky, technical singletrack, great views. In essence, the total mountain biking package. While riding the crest you will simply feel the pure exhilarition and joy of being truly alive. Even when the trail is crowded, the vibe is the best. You can't go wrong here.
Recommended Route: Climb the Big Water trail out of Mill Creek Canyon, hit the GWT to the Wasatch Crest. Make the loop to Dog Lake(including a gut-busting climb), and descend the Little Water trail back to your car.
Other recommended trails in the same area: If you can go here, there's no point in going anywhere else in the area.

Summary: This trail is amazing. The view is great. It was a bit crouded but that did no detract from it all. We started from Big cottonwood and rode home through millcreek. Puke hill is deffinatly a 5 in the arobic catagory but the rest is just around a 3. Its good to get the big hill over at the beginning. This trail has alot of fun single track. There is at least one unridable rocky spots on the crest. I watched several people try and fall. there are different ways you can go down into millcreek. Going down to desolation lake is fun but has a narly up hill to dog lake.(not recommended). You can then take the big or little water trails once you are off the great western trail. the little water is more fun for the downhill. Big water is a great winding trail but is the primary uphill route for the dog lake trail. Just a word you can only bike in upper millcreek canyon on even numbered days of the month.
Recommended Route: Big Cottonwood to Millcreek. Starting from millcreek would be insane, or for the racer.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Dog Lake from millcreek. Also the pipeline also in millcreek.

Summary: This is one of the best rides I have ever done. I did it from big cottonwood. Lots of fun. There was alot of people but that did not bug me. The aerobic difficulty is a 5 up puke hill but only a 3 the rest of the way. there are some definite 5's in the technical range
