Bobsled

Very steep, washboard beginning. Fast, sharp banked turns in the middle(hence the bobsled name) and fast singletrack at the end. Oh, and a b**ch of a climb for 75 feet at the end.
Drive East on South Temple St. Take the first left past the 1300 E. Stop Light. Drive North past the Shriner's Children's Hospital and turn left just past their property. Drive past Salt Lake City Cemetery and the crematorium. Take first right after crematorium and park in parking lot of school/park. Either shuttle or ride straight up the road for about a 1/4 mile and there will be a gate to enter the Bonneville Shorline Trail. Ride up about 1-1/2 miles to the big bend where there is a big sign prohibiting bikes, horses, atv's, etc. to the left. Turn right off the face of the hill(doesn't really look like a trail, but trust me, it's there)-this is the beginning of the bobsled.

Summary: An old staple. Especially now that I have a 9 to 5 (or longer). Great for evening rides in the summer when it's 100 out (like today). Decent shade for much of the uphill. I used to do laps on this thing in my late teens. The beer belly needs to go before I'm doing that again, but I'm working on it. I bet many a people have eatin some serious sheeaaattt on the first 150 yard decent. It's loose, bumpy, rolly, and has erosion ditches everywhere. Gotta watch your assss on this part. After that, the true bobsled begins. Lots of burms and swooping turns and drops. It's pretty cool to feel yourself get nearly horizontal with only centrfugal force keeping your tires on dirt. You can bail out 1/2 way down by turning right on the dirt road heading back to mid Terrace Hills Drive or you can go down 7 car canyon and meet Chandler Dr. ending up just above the cemetary and 11th Ave. Still the same today as it was a decade (or more!) ago. DON'T RIDE UP IT or you'll get to kiss some titanium and drink dinner through a straw for awhile!!!
Recommended Route: Terrace Hills to top, lift bike through gates, pedal your arse and don't turn left til you get to the saddle looking west to City Creek Canyon or east towards the "U". Head east and don't mess up on the first decent or you'll be bummin....
Other recommended trails in the same area: Pipeline (mouth of Emigration and Milcreek). Mueller Park

Summary: Don't be a wuss, work for the top :) I started riding with worn out brake pads from recent mud riding: WELL FUNCTIONING BRAKES ARE A MUST! I endod on the washboard part and ripped apart my front brake, and the front is generally the most important on this type of ride. I rode it probably twice as fast as I should've without that brake, but it was a hell of a ride. I'd reccomend it to anyone who rides the BST, it makes a great finisher.
Recommended Route: Take the BST up to the top out of City Creek.
Other recommended trails in the same area: BST, Mill Creek Pipeline, Wasatch Crest

Summary: This route is for those who like a little climb. The ridge line trail of Dry Creek is a smooth fast ride with a lot of great views of the city. The beginning of the Bobsled is steep and wash board. The Bobsled itself is wild ride. Its got the bobsled style turns and a few decent drop off's. There are two logs you ride under on the lower half. You will ride under one log and come around a blind right turn to the second one. THE SECOND LOG IS NOW TOO LOW TO RIDE UNDER! So don't loose your head. It is over pretty fast, but worth it.
Recommended Route: Park your car at the small park just north of Schriner's hospital. Follow the paved bike trail east. This will take you to the start of Dry Creek. Ride the Dry Creek trail to Bobsled trailhead. At the bottom of the Bobsled you can hook up with 11th ave. and ride to your car.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Dry Creek to City Creek Canyon

Summary: If you only have a little bit of time and you live by the U this is the trail for you! It is a good up hill for about 2 1/2 miles and then a sweet single track luge for the downhill. At the end ride up through the residentials and then hit the upper single track on the way back.
Recommended Route: Start by the red butte gardens.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Roller coaster, pipeline

Summary: It is a hell of a ride, its good because you go down the whole way exept the last 75 feet, but make sure you have good brakes and make sure you launch off the 40's and 50's cars that are in the bottom of the ravine.my best advise is BE EXPERIENCED AND RIDE LIKE HELL......and have fun.
Recommended Route: My best reccomendations drive all the way to the trailhead, especialy if you dont like riding uphill or have a downhill bike.
