A tight, twisty singletrack, ideal for strong intermediate riders. This ride is too new to show up in guidebooks. So take Out There with you, or ask at the bike shops in Moab. Since the trail is still faint, a map and compass might be a good idea.
To get there: Drive 17.5 miles north of Moab on U.S. Highway 191. Turn right on Klondike Bluffs Road. Drive three miles to trailhead.
The ride: Start by heading north on a sandy doubletrack. Take a left at a sign for Baby Steps and ride .75 mile to a marked right turn. Start climbing bumpy slickrock.
At 2.7 miles from the trailhead, take a right onto a clear singletrack loop. The next half-mile is the most technical section of trail, with a few steep descents and rocky ridges.
At 3.5 miles, the trail hits a doubletrack along a fin of creamy sandstone. Turn left. At the top of a hill, turn left onto another marked loop of singletrack; 1.5 bumpy miles later it reconnects with the doubletrack. Turn left, climb a mile to a fork, and turn left.
Climb a short, steep section to a ridge and descend a loose, rocky road to a wide valley. Take a left, paralleling the ridge on a doubletrack.
At a T intersection, go left and climb over the ridge again, then descend and follow the road as it winds back up to the ridge. Sigh in frustration.
Finally, on the ridge, turn left on a wellmarked singletrack that descends the slickrock to the valley floor. Where the trail hits a dirt road, turn left and return 3.5 miles to the trailhead.
Summary: I rode this trail in March of 2007 and had a blast. It is not very technical so you can just cruise right on up to the top. The ride up does get a little tedious because there isn't much variation but it is well worth it once you get to the top.
At the top you can leave your bike and walk about a half mile to a spot overlooking Arches National Park. The view alone is worth the ride.
The ride down is very fast since and a lot of fun. Overall, I would recommend this as a good trail to do if you get into town late and want to do a warm up before tackling the numerous other trails around Moab.

Summary: We made a special trip to Moab to ride this trail in May. 20 years in the making right!? Do yourself a favor and skip this ride. The riders in our group came up with this top 10 list as we rode the trail. The list was about the only thing we could do to have a tolerable time. Very disappointed with this ride.
Babysteps Top 10 list:
1. Well marked trails - make sure you bring a GPS and a flask to minimize frustration.
2. Long meaningless jeep trail climbs with even more less meaningful
descents.
3. You will want to be ahead of your group to minimize the amount of
dust enhalation.
4. Trail gives you the opportunity to see how those new glasses deflect
dust from your eyes.
5. Single track (what little you find) leaves you with a sense of
wanting more.
6. After a long ride, do not be surprised if you ask yourself, "Why?"
7. If you do it twice, you probably dig self mutilation.
8. If you must do the ride, do it first. This make everything else
that much better.
9. A trail you hopefully will never forget. So, you never mistakenly
recommend it.
10. A great opportunity to try out your extra dry chain lube!
If you ride it...don't blame us. We gave the aerobic level a 3...because drudging through sandbeds really is tiring....
