Owens Loop Trail
2 reviews
 4 of 5

Short technical single track, that by itself usually takes less than an hour. The best way to do this trail is to start at the pioneer park loop, ride the pioneer park single track to the road, ride the road down for about 100 yards, then start on Owens Loop. This out and back is about 5 or6 miles. The trail is easy to get side tracked on so look for stacked rocks, and pay atention. Note: most people people turn back prematureley and don't ride the technical section of the trail, known as the gauntlet. The trail ends after riding through an extreamly technical section that's Gooseberry esque, then doing a small loop at the very end of the mesa. Hence the name Owens loop.

Trail Directions
On the north side of the city look for the word Dixie painted on the side of a cliff face. From St. George blvd. take 1000 E northward. At the end of 1000 E turn left and continue for about a half a mile, and either turn right into pioneer park and ride the pioneer park trail to Owens Loop, or continue past pioneer park to the owens loop trail head. When the road splits go right and continue northward about a quarter of a mile until theres a small pullout on the left, park there and take the middle trail. There is no sign indicating the trail head

Summary:
This is one of my favorite trails in St. George, and is excelent for developing better technical skills. It's also the prettiest trail in St. George with some excelent views of the entire city. I listed the technical difficulty as a 4, but if you don't try to ride the Gauntlet then the rest of the trail is a solid 3

Recommended Route:
Start at the pioneer park loop trail head then then drop down and do Owens Loop, Or start at the other more official trail head for pioneer park, and City Creek, Which is about a quarter of a mile north of the owens loop trail head, cross the road and when the trail first splits go left, or follow City Creek for a while, and right before City Creek trail starts to drop hang a left and both of these variations take you back to owens loop, just be sure to pay attention for stacked rocks and expect to get a little lost the first time

Other recommended trails in the same area:
City Creek, and the Pioneer Park, and Paradise Canyon, trail systems
