Blackhawk (Nebo Loop)

This Trail is published in the Mountain Biking Utah series of book and they do a great job of discribing the ride. Check the guide book for a map, which you will need. I didn't see this trail on this web site and thought it funny that no one had submitted such a great trail. We've only done it once but plan to go back again. We really had a great time. We liked it as well as the Crest or Mueller Park.

Summary:
This is a long, but fun trail. It took most of the day, and we were very tired by the time we finished, but we only go out once in a while. So even if you are not real fit, you can probably make it around the entire loop. If you find that you are too tired, you can quit half way through and take the road downhill to your car, but then you would miss the fun singletrack on the second half of the ride. A lot of uphill on the first half, and a lot of downhill on the second half. Mountain Biking Utah by Gregg Bromka is very acurate in describing this ride, and where to travel. Good variety on this trail.

Recommended Route:
More than 3/4 the way through, you'll see a fork. The right fork goes down to Payson Lakes Campground. Stay left to go around the lake and campground (which you never see) and enjoy the final downhill sections as you loop back to the road. Go up the paved road to your car.

Summary:
On one of my regular trips to N. Utah, I took the time to drive down here in hopes of escaping the more crowded trails of the Salt Lake and Ogden areas. I certainly accomplished that goal! Never saw another soul on the trail except my riding partner. Only saw another human being when the trail passed through the campground.
The trail is long enough to make for a great ride. There is a great mix of climbing, downhill, and some roller coaster in between. Also a great mix of pines, aspens (would love to come back in the fall), and open meadows. The only thing lacking (besides people) is the more dramatic scenery of the Wasatch Crest. This is just a tiny smidge short of a full five stars--well worth the trip.

Recommended Route:
Follow the ride as described int he Mtn Bike Utah book.

Summary:
This trail is my favorite in the Utah County area. Nice rolling buffed trails which snake through some great scenery! This is really good ride in the fall.

Recommended Route:
Begin at the parking area just off the road and by the "Mt Loafer" sign. Proceed in a clockwise fashion.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
5th Water up diamond fork canyon
