Stansbury Island Trail

This is a great year round single-track!! We've only encountered 1 other biker(and that was at the trailhead!) We've also only met 2 or 3 hikers! If it wasn't for the killer, and I mean KILLER hill and switchbacks at the very first part of the ride, this would rate as one of my favorite! Head south on a single-track and up a short but steep draw. Ahead, to the right, you can see the switchbacks I was referring to! Good-Luck, I think even a Mountain Goat would be challenged on this one. After you get to the top of the switchbacks, 8 in all, you come to a saddle and are faced with 4 terrible switchbacks down to the single-track. But here's where the fun begins. An incredible single-track awaits you. Just take care of the steep, exposed cliffs on your right side! You are now following what once was the shoreline of ancient Lake Bonneville.

Ridden Trail:
Once a year

Reviewed by: Jeff B , from Murray

Summary:
This trail absolutely licks my CHODE. I don't know why I insist on going out there once a year to ride it. Once you finish the initial climb it turns into a slow rolling out and back trail. Along the way you will always encounter someone shooting guns and you pray they are not aiming up at you. You never can tell being that close to Tooele and Grantsville. SO watch out. The scenery really sucks out there as well. Nothing but rock and some brush. If you get there early enough in the morning you can wake up all the hung over high school kids hiding from the the cops, and there is always someone puking or cleaning it up from inside the car they slept in. -5 tires...

Recommended Route:
drive way the heck out to BFE and ride the island.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
GO JUMP in the LAKE this trail stinks more than the LAKE, so you are better off doing that.

Ridden Trail:
Every few months

Summary:
As someone else noted, good to do when you have the bike-jones, live around Salt Lake and the higher trails are still covered. The initial climb is a good workout, but nowhere near as difficult as people tend to say. A couple switchbacks are tight and steep, and therefore a challenge to ride, but otherwise it doesn't stand out against other hill climbs in the Wasatch. The rest of the ride is interesting only in that you are on a strange island. It's flat and way too short. A good alternative in the Spring when you get bored with the Shoreline trail.

Recommended Route:
as described

Summary:
the trail does have an incredible climb right at the beginning but that is about as all the challenge you are going to get. after that it becomes very flat and not technical at all. it is a very boring ride. the only thing it does have going for it is the views.

Recommended Route:
only one route to take.

Ridden Trail:
Once a year

Reviewed by: ZOIDO , from Salt Lake

Summary:
Take the trail up and follow the obvious switchbacks over the crest. After that the trail becomes a beginner to intermediate cruise traversing the island and is nothing special.

Recommended Route:
the only way you can go. UP

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Antelope island is much funner, and has more options for riding, although there is a fee to cross the causway.

Summary:
Yeah this trail is really fun and is dry when everything else is wet or covered by snow.. The first switch backs are very challenging uphill, but the ride down is a lot of fun. And the long single track beetween is a real blast (very similar to pipeline).
