Summary:
This trail is pretty cool. I have never ridden anything like it anywhere. The ups and downs are pretty steep but they never last for too long. So the aerobic burn on this trail comes from going up short very steep sections. There are some of these areas that I never did see a rider make it up without walking a little bit. The books all rate it as extremely technical but I didn't think it was too technical at all. There are a few spots that I would consider technical but not many. Make sure to get there early in the morning because it gets EXTREMELY busy and you will end up waiting a long time at certain areas for other people to go down or up. Don't miss this one, it is what made Moab famous.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Sovereign singletrack.

Summary:
Think of this trail as 2 separate trails, a practice loop and a main section. The main section, think of three seperate sections, now:
The practice loop is fun and fairly representitve of the second third (back) of the main trail. Lots of fun and a good sample of the SIMPLE stuff. On the main trail, the first third has some huge climbs. If your doing this on a 35lb bike you'll be in pain and walking for most of it,lighter is better. The second third ( backside) is really cool. Lots of flowing decents and climbs, great views. The heavy bike wont hurt you to bad here. The last third is similar to the front third, big climbs, great decents. You could do the whole thing on a 3-4in travel bike, no problem. Bigger is not better on this trail. In between the climbs and decents, there are the occasional sand trap, the best way to transverse these is with speed, totally counter intuitive I know, but it allows you to float on top with out pedalling. If you slow down, you'll sink in and thats it.Remember, faster is better.
These trails are NOT techical, not in the sense of rock gardens, logs, stream crossings etc.
A fun trail and nothing like it anywhere.Allow 4 hours for everything, there is no shade out there, plan accordingly.

Recommended Route:
Everyone says left (clockwise) is the easier, It may be, but not by much. The climbs on the first third of the main trail were brutal for a flatlander like me.The decents on the last third didnt make up for the climbs on the first third, but the views are awesome. Remember one thing, if your renting a bike, it will be heavier than a spec bike. All the local shops add heavy tires, beefy seats etc. I found that the people at Chili-pepper bikes were really great, laid back and had great trail knowledge. Bikes were in great shape, just heavy.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
There isnt a bad trail in Moab, if you cant find it here, it doesnt exist.
Something for everyone.

Summary:
Great trail, fun if you just want to get out and ride for an afternoon. Lot's of ups and downs, and the sand pits get you tired. It's definitely not a hard trail at all. If you wanna go mess around on the practice loop have at it, but the first time I rode the trail I didnt and i was fine. Fun ride.

Recommended Route:
Just do the main loop

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Moab rim, Poison spider

Summary:
While this wasn't my favorite ride in Moab, it is a MUST if you are coming to Moab for the first time. You will amaze yourself at the things you can climb, the traction is out of this world. There are some very scenic areas (especially along the Practice Loop). All in all, this is one of the worlds great rides! Be advised this ride is grueling, like your worst interval training nightmare. Bomb down scary fast, grind back up with heart rates near maximum levels, over and over and over again. Bring lots of water! If you are not a skilled rider don't ride The Slickrock trail. There are other less challenging and less dangerous places to ride on slickrock terrain. More people die on the Slickrock trail than any other! There are numerous dangerous or even life-threatening sections of the trail. Ride smart and if necessary, walk to avoid riding beyond your ability and riding beyond your lifespan.

Recommended Route:
Do the Practice loop, then proceed to the main Loop. Follow the white lines.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Porcupine Rim is the BEST ride in Moab. Amassa Back is another great ride. There are dozens of other terrific trails in the area.
