Radio Towers to Dude and possibly Rudys Flat

This is more of an adventure ride than what's generally considered to be a good "mountain bike ride." Pedal south towards the first of the three groups of radio towers. When you reach the first group, take the dirt road eastward past the other two groups. Past the third group, the going gets really tough. When Weird Al sang "I Love Rocky Road", he must have envisioned this ride. There are a minimum of three hike-a-bike sections, more if you don't hammer. The final hike-a-bike rounds a small grove of trees straight up a punishingly steep pitch littered with rocks that ascends a few hundred vertical feet. Take a breather and then tackle the last steep climb (it's makeable) to the east. You'll follow the ridge for a few hundred yards to Dude (that's what it's called on the USGS maps), a small rock outcropping. Rudy's Flat is visible to the northeast, but it's unclear to me how to arrive there. A hiking book of mine claims that the jeep road continues to Rudy's Flat, but it looks like a bushwhack. If you figure out a way to get there, please let me know. If you can't make it to Rudy's Flat, ride back to the top of the final hike-a-bike. Now descend to the west down a steep, loose, and nasty slope. Watch for a right turn. Stay right and you'll finally encounter some good trail conditions and a fun downhill that rides very much like singletrack. It will shoot you out onto the North Canyon road not far from the pavement. It's cooldown time on the pavement back to the golf course. Ride south and west until you reach Bountiful Blvd, which will take you straight there.
Summary: This ride has some very difficult steeps interspersed with loose, adrenaline rush downhills. Recommended for the adventurous or masochisitic.
Recommended Route: Start at the south end of Eagle Wood Golf Course. Ride south on dirt road about 1mile. Head east up very steep climb(hike). Continue up(some rideable by mortals) then take steep fun descent to intersection with radio towers trail.

Summary: There is NO TRAIL from the peak marked "Dude" on the USGS map to Rudy's Flat. There is no way to get from one point to the other with a bike. You will find yourself pushing your bike up hundreds of vertical feet through scrub oak so thick that you have to heft your bike above your waist to get through. The surface is very steep and extremely rocky and the risk of slipping on a loose rock or tripping on a low branch and tumbling down the hillside is quite high. As the other reviewer mentioned, you have to go through about an hour of hiking your bike up some very steep loose jeep roads just to get to this point. This trail looks like it should be possible, but it's not. Don't interpret that as a challenge. Once you get past the last group of radio towers, you will find yourself walking most of the way. Once you get past Dude, this becomes a hiking trail over extremely rough terrain with at least a mile of scrambling and route finding. A bike is of no use to you here. I pushed my bike up to "Dude". From there, the trail turns into single track. I then scrambled up the next hill past that and the trail was nothing more than a rabbit track through the scrub oak. At this point, I was still a mile from Rudy's Flat according to my GPS. I bushwacked for about 45 minutes to find my way to the North Canyon trail. There was no way I could find to continue in the direction of Rudy's Flat.
Recommended Route: THIS IS NOT A TRAIL. Do not attempt to go from Dude to Rudy's Flat.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Ride up Mueller Park and down North Canyon. Or ride up to the Radio Towers and come down the single track into City Creek.
