Aspen Grove Trail

Killer downhill trail. I've done it a few times, and every time I go, someone in our party gets hurt. It's a fast and steep singletrack the whole way down and gets pretty hairy in some parts. Let it ride and have fun!
Take provo canyon road up the canyon. Follow signs to sundance and continue up to Aspen Grove. Go past the ranger station and up the hill a few miles to the parking lot at the top of the summit. You'll want to drive two cars if you just want to have fun and downhill it. There are other trails out of this lot as well and you don't have to worry about having another car to bring you back up top.
Summary: This is far from the best trail in the area. It is about 2.5 miles of single track that is on the steep side for climbing, but lacking in anything very interesting on the downhill.
The trail really only deserves about a 3 rating. The guys who rated it so highly don't know what they're missing if they'd just ride in another direction from the summit of the alpine loop (any other direction leads to better riding than this). There are so many awesome rides that form nice loops or screaming downhills if you just pick any other trail leaving the summit parking lot.
I'm not saying that this trail is horrible, its just mediocre by comparison to everything else available in the area.
Recommended Route: Climb up either on the road (boring) or on the trail (boring and grueling) and turn around and ride back down.
If you must ride this, pedal up and then ride the Deercreek Southfork loop before going back down. At least that way you'd get 11 miles of riding (6 of which is really awesome and 5 of which is the Aspen Grove trail).

Summary: These trails are smooth single track, with small rollers, and the occasional two foot drop(on Pine Hollow and Tibble Fork). Very fast, but not the most technical riding ever.
Recommended Route: If you park at the parking lot on the summit, you can take trails in any direction, south, and go to sundance, North and got to Tibble Fork, East and go to Ridge trail, West, and go to pine hollow. If you do take two cars make sure you park it in the right spot. My Favorite trail of them all is pine hollow.

Summary: I used to ride this trial in the late summer to early winter. It is one of the best(however short) around the Provo area. It's a climb to the top with some fun, technical downhill. A good ride for anyone except beginners.
Recommended Route: Start riding at the bottom, get to the top, then turn around and come screaming down.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: Single track winding through aspen, season runs from late April through November. Lots of roots and nettle, but a gas both up and back. Black daimond if you do the round trip, blue square if just downhill. A good hour-long ride.
Recommended Route: Start at Aspen Grove on the Timpanogos Trail, but hang a right at the bridge (do NOT go straight--it's wilderness, no bikes allowed, big sign, big fine, NO NO), then "earn your turns" by riding up to the summit. None of this two-car whiner stuff. It's just over 2.8 miles to the summit. Be sure to yield to runners and horses. Runners running the 100-mile Wasatch race (like me) BUILT this trail, and they get really pissed off at careening mt bikers, so BE NICE. If you yield like you're supposed to, you will have a pleasant experience. If not, you will get pushed over (yes, you will).
Other recommended trails in the same area: Ridge Trail 157. Real men ride to Brighton and back from Aspen Grove (42 miles single track)

Summary: It is a great trail, but I recommend starting at the Aspen Grove parking lot and biking up to the summit on the loop road. The downhill is beautiful. I have seen several moose on the trail. Nice, quick ride.
