Approximately 6.5 mile loop with different variations of riding it. The trail is not for the beginner. It is tight and twisty singletrack with abundant switch backs. There are not any hills in this area of considerable grief... but the trail has a lot of fast and tight singletrack sections. This is technical riding at its best in this area. Also there's a bonus jump course near the end of the trail.

Summary:
Reading the reviews I was frankly expecting more. I am new to the Memphis area coming from Indiana and have so far ridden Herb Parsons, Clear Creek (Oxford) and Bayou Point (Arkabutla Lake). Stanky Creek was my least favorite. This may be partially my fault as I somehow didn't get the memo that the preferred direction and starting point was clockwise from the west entry. I started on the East side of the lot and rode counter clock wise.

As seems par for the course in the area, the signage was as bad as it could be, as in there is none. Multiple times I sat at an intersection guessing which way to go. Always choosing right seemed to have kept me on the longest loop, except when you'd find one of the rabbit trails going out to the edge of the property. I suppose a lot of these are bandit trails built by locals leading to the backs of subdivisions for private access.

It hadn't rained in a few days but parts of the course were still quite muddy. Not what I was expecting. Other than the creek bed crossings, which I get, a lot of this seemed to be caused by the trails being built along the fall line, which also led to lots of erosion, exposed roots and widened trail sections where people are searching for a dry spot to ride at the edges.

Not much flow on these trails, certainly not built for speed but lots of twisting, turning and narrow tree gaps. Usually these kinds of features are used as speed buffers before you come to something technical but they were often there just for the sake of being there. At other times, when there was something technical like a drop or big exposed roots they came up without any real warning and I find my self grabbing a handful of brake to scrub speed.

I was glad to see all the cool bridges and some technical stuff. This is the first trail in the area I've ridden where logs have been left across the trails and the small whoop de doos give an almost pump track feel to portions of it.

I can tell the locals have put a lot of work into this trail system, both in original construction and upkeep. A few corrections to some of the fall line trails, constant vigilance to close down the bandit trails and signage would change this trail from OK to great. It may also make a huge difference to ride it clockwise instead of counter clockwise like I did. I will give it one more shot, going in the clockwise direction.

Recommended Route:
Counter clockwise seemed against the flow, I will try again clockwise.

Summary:
I see that this trail hasn't been reviewed in a few years and there has been many changes. The total trail is over 10 miles now, you can easily get in 20 miles of singletrack if you ride it in both directions (CW is the normal route, but you can ride it CCW and it is a completely different trail, so ride both ways in one day to get in 20 miles of fresh trail). The parking lot is now paved and there is a nice trail map permanently located at the trail head. This is my favorite trail in the Memphis area. The park is also referred to as Nesbit Park, but the locals all call it Stanky Creek.

Recommended Route:
Starting in the Parking Lot, ride the blue, yellow, white, outhouse, white, new loop, white, back to parking lot in CW direction for over 10 miles of singletrack. If you still want more, ride it backwards for 10 more miles of fresh trail.

Summary:
Stanky has been reviewed as the Bartlett trail, but it is most commonly know as Stanky Creek and is the local Memphis area premiere mountain biking venue.

Almost continuous trail repair over the last year has kept this system in race worthy condition. Several races (NORBA) have been held at this location. This trail system has been increased in length to 9.25 miles. A new 1.25 mile section added in the past month called the “out house” loop adds a section for speed or recovery, an old out house nearby the trail gives the loop it’s name. A planned .75 mile extension will give the trail a total of 10 miles, just in time for the annual 12 Hours of Stanky race Halloween weekend.

Recommended Route:
Clockwise

Summary:
Overall this a pretty good ride. It offers a little bit of everything for you to have a little fun. The track is pretty tight in places and you can't get much speed (I think 17 mph is the highest I registered on my computer). The bottoms hold a lot of water in spots and it can get pretty muddy after a rain. There is a decent little technical area with some bridges and rails to ride (thanks to whoever built them). Decent creek crossings and one decent down hill on the Blue trail, which is not as bad as someone had previously posted. The trails however, are not very well marked. They are marked w/ colored paint on the trees but there are several points where there are 2-4 ways to go and if you have not ridden here much (this was my first time here) you can get a little disoriented and wondering which trail to take. Overall it is fun and challenging for the beginner and a good way to brush off the dust after a winter spell of not riding. It is worth going back to. LIVESTRONG!

Recommended Route:
I would start on the Blue trail which is on the left side of the parking area. You will ahve most of you rfun there and then can decide if you want to check out the other trails.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Shelby Farms, or Tour De Wolf is not far from there. I usually hit Stanky and then drive over to the TDW in the afternoon.

Summary:
This is clearly the best riding in Mempphis. Kudos to the club that maintains the trail. I rode this after a storm and there were all kinds of trees down. This weekend it was cleared and 100% available.

Recommended Route:
I suppose you can start on either end but I like starting with the blue route then yellow and then white. I am not sure why they call the white the expert loop. It is actually the easiest of the lot.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Clear Creek in Oxford MS is better than this with more elevation but farther away. Fruit loops (also in Oxford) is okay but the best part is POSTED.
