Horse trail open to bikes. Fairly wide most places. UP AND DOWN, stream crossings, remote.
Take I-40 to Harriman exit. Go north on 27/29 through Harriman about 12 miles out of Harriman look for the green and yellow TN forestry sign. Turn left and go a mile or so to trail head.
Summary: Though not really single track (rangers on quads clear logs and such)-this trail network is a real stomper. Not entirely technical, it's wicked steep in places and off camber s/b's will keep you on the toes. Lots of spiderwebs across the trail and occasional horses, keep your eyes peeled. Also, often some gun toters on the back side of the mountain, either huntin, guardin a crop or a lab. Be friendly and they'll mutter something but won't get in your biz.... Be ready for beefy climbs and ripper downhill.
Recommended Route: From Ranger station, climb 2.1 miles. Head left to another 2 mi. to coyote point. Go past rankin sping (rank water, don't' drink) a 1/2 mile to the SW ridge fork. From that fork Coyote Pt. is .1 mile, killer view and picnic table. Head back to the SW ridge. From here the downhill shoots you like a cannon for a mile. I prefer to follow SW ridge (stay left all the way) as there are killer rollers and small rock gardens/creek near the end. Hook right on gravel road for a usually hot grind back to a silver metal gate on your right. Hit the Longest Mile (2.7mi) to reach the earlier fork and scream back down to the Ranger station. This is about 11 miles and you can add more trail time by doing Carl Black/Twister Pass if you've got the guns.
Take extra water. This trail will throw it at ya. Inter/Advanced suggested.
If you are puking at the 2.1 mark, you can follow the Longest Mile down, trun right at gravel road at bottom and that will eventually take you to Ranger Station on gravel/paved roads.
Other recommended trails in the same area: The sign off highway is hard to spot, it's virtually across from a gas station (Exxon iirc). If you are coming from Harriman and get to Wartburg, flip a ***** and keep an eye out for yellow/green sign now on right.

Summary: I have ridden and raced at Lone Mountain several dozen times and have found it's my favorite place to ride in TN. It has everything...steep uphills, fast downhills, switchbacks, banked turns, water crossings, rolling sections, and technical rocky sections.
I prefer to go up Longest Mile and then back down Sawmill so I can hit the switchbacks and a couple banked turns. It's approximately a 9 mile loop. Both trails intersect at the top of the mountain and from there it's a short ride out to Coyote Point for a good view.
Watch out for horses.
Recommended Route: As described in the review by Julian Tufano. Easy to get lost being so remote.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Frozen Head for a 7-mile climb, Windrock for DH, Haw Ridge, Northridge trail in Oak Ridge, Concord Park in Farragut, Norris State Park

Summary: Have to share with horses. 2 loops. 1 Short loop: Start is gravely, to moderate / intermediate downhill. Stay straight, to technical uphill. Loop approx 4 miles 2 Long loop Start (same as short) on downhill take left on to Sawmill (uphill)3mi bottom stream crossings, to switchbacks . Take left at top, on to "Longest Mile"(more like 4 or 5 miles) rolling to downhill, end up where you started.
Recommended Route: From Knoxville, TN: Take I40 to Pellissippi, through Oliver Springs, take right at 4 way stop light"downtown". Take left at turnoff to Frozen Head state park. (suggest using mapquest, there are some wierd backroads)
Other recommended trails in the same area: Windrock Mountain(Oliver Springs, TN area)(extreme freeriding/downill) / Haw Ridge Park(Oak Ridge,TN) (popular xc riding
