I C King Park

a short but fun trail system consisting of three loops: a beginner, intermediate and advanced. More trails currently being built by Southern Cycling Operations on the South side of the park. These will be much more hilly and advanced. Projected to be finished by Spring 2000 (fingers crossed).

Summary:
I don't get a chance to come down here much but I absolutely love this trail. It's well kept and I still have yet to encounter any strange people. Actually saw a guy picking up garbage along the trail. Very well kept. It is not very difficult at all though. Has a scenic route and not bad at all considering location.

Recommended Route:
Across the bridge to the most difficult section.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Haw Ridge and my personal favorite- Panther Creek

Summary:
Great variety of fast single track. Beginner and intermediate levels with some good cardio climbs. The trails are more or less in two sectors divided by a bridge. The first section is a couple of beginner loops and what is labeled expert. There is nothing to technical though, a few down and ups you can have trouble pulling out of if you lose your momentum. for the most part (dips aside) the opening loops are pretty level. Across the bridge you'll find some nice climbs (with some tight switch backs). There are a few little drops on some side trails, one about 4ft. but other than nothing to crazy.

The trail is surprisingly scenic for being so close to town. Lush forest with some nice views of the water. The trail head has a reputation for male prostitution and you still see a few guys here and there (it's been cleaned up quite a bit) but rarely beyond the first few yards of trail.

It's not a destination system but if you are looking for fast single track it's a definite 5 out 5 for a city ride.

Recommended Route:
You can more or less cover the whole thing in a little over an hour. The way the trail flows you will tend to end up saving the expert loop for last, which, depending upon you cardiovascular capacity may be a mistake. Frankly, the expert loop is the dullest (and last time out, had the most fallen trees).

Summary:
You know usually I hate cross-country trails because most of the time they are really boring and long but this trail is actually pretty fun... The 4-5 drop is actually pretty fun the first couple times you do it but after that its kinda boring... I wish they would build some jumps on the trails because that would make it alot better (hint hint haha) I would rather go to Big Foot or Windrock (when I get a little better)...

Recommended Route:
all the way to the top then pedal as fast as you can down... don't be wuss haha

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Big Foot and Windrock if your pretty hard core

Summary:
This place is not as bad as all the rumors make it out to be... I have been here about 5 times in the last month or two and have only seen a few strange people walking the trails suspiciously. Other than that, there are always bikers here and plenty of parking to keep you safe :) The trails are awesome! It is all singletrack and there are many different types of riding to be found after you know the place a little bit. There is a section of rocks a very nice 3 or 4 foot drop. The back side has some awesome hill climbs and nice downhills all looped together.

Recommended Route:
I always stay on the mail trail until you some to a split and take the "Upper" trail. Then head to the right (downhill) when it splits again. This is a very fun and very fast section of twisted, rooted, and rolling trail. Take the next right with a technical log bridge on the side. The trail ends at a bridge. Cross the bridge and you will come to the open rocky section with drops and some technical stuff. Go past this area and stay right at the next two splits and you come to NICE hillclimb not to steep but a nice payoff if you take a break the top and run it backwards! Then ride back to the parking lot by just staying left the whole time...Take a break for a few minutes and do it again!

Haw Ridge

Summary:
Like others, I was sceptical about going to this trail due to the rumors.. I decided to go anyways and see how it was since it is so close to my place. I was very impressed, yes, the climbs aren't too hard but the trail flows so well. I seen a few weird guys one that was checking out peoples cars like he was looking for one that was unlocked that he could jump in and another one was just wondering the trails, he was dressed up like he should have been at work. Besides the 2 weird encounters, it was a great ride and I will defenitly return.

Recommended Route:
I always take the far left at the initial split and tend to stay left on the ride up, then on the way back I follow the lake.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Haw Ridge!
