Germantown Greenway

A good portion of the trail is paved, but some areas have had the paving washed away in heavy rains. However, these areas ride just fine. This is a good beginner's trail, offering a good ride with nice scenery.
Take Germantown Rd SOUTH from I-40. After crossing the Wolf River, there will be a Wal-Mart immediately on the left. There is a trail-head in that parking lot. Also, you can turn right on Wolf River Parkway, and there are 2 parking areas at trailheads on the right. They are somewhat hidden if you don't know where they are, and parking is limited at them (1 of them has less than a dozen spaces, I believe), so I'd recommend the Wal-Mart. If you are coming from Poplar, go NORTH on Germantown Rd, and th Wal-Mart will be on the right just before the Wolf River.
Summary: This paved trail is perfect for the beginner or for those of us who are trying to get in shape. It's a nice quiet place away from the main roads where you can work up your strength if you're not quite ready for those tough off-road dirt trails. Or, use it for a peaceful, relaxing time to casually ride around and enjoy the scenery. It's also an excellent place for the little ones to roam around without the worries vehicles being nearby.
Other recommended trails in the same area: The off-road dirt trails along the north side of the Wolf River are great if you're ready for them...be ready for a workout! The parking area is around the north side of the Wolf River bridge, and the west side of Germantown Road. Shelby Farms is also a great place to ride, with several miles of hilly paved pathways, and several more miles of off-road dirt trails...very challenging!

Summary: The ex-Walmart building is gone. Park behind Chik Fil A, that is where the trailhead begins. After passing under the bridge you have a fork. To the left is about 2.5 miles of paved. Beware of little old ladies tearing it up! The right fork is only about .75 mile, but there was a single unpaved trail off to the left. I rode it for 100 yards until my Candy C broke. I will investigate after my new SL gets here. The trail held promise.

Summary: This trail is a meandering paved, mostly flat, stroll through some woods along the river's edge. Its pleasant but not challenging. Nice family ride. (Training wheels optional)
Other recommended trails in the same area: Wolf River Trails (just across the river) and Tour d'Wolf.

Summary: I actually haven't had a chance to check out this trail, but thought I'd let anyone interested know that the Wal-Mart is no longer open. But considering how often Wal-Mart shuts down stores (and opens new ones blocks away), you should be able to tell the building that used to be wal-mart.
