Fairveiw Nature Park

Mountain trails bike club in Nashville worked hard on this trails system some time back and helped produced a good place to ride. Trails are very sensitive to water so check at bike shop for local conditions. Maps are available and trails are marked red for 7 mile loop, yellow for 4.5, and jeep roads only about 3 miles. There is some horse back traffic in mornings and afternoons, so I try to hit the trails mid day. Seven mile loop has a fast hard pack with churt surface. It is rocky in spots and some nice creek crossing which tend to be slick. Not a lot (if any eleveation gains) hills but kind of rollling. follow the trail markers. This is my favorite place to ride in Middle Tennessee

Summary:
Please ignore the review after this one as it apparenly was written by someone more concerned with touting his racing victories that what mountain biking is all about, which is getting in the woods on the dirt and enjoying the ride. This isn't an aerobically difficult trail and is pretty short at 4 miles. But, it's a great trail that gives a newer rider a taste of all the types of terrain you could encounter on other, more "hardcore", trails. You've got sections of hardpack dirt, rocky terrain, some whoop-de-doos, a creek crossing, some fairly quick downhill sections (if you pedal fast) and a 100 yard climb out to the parking lot. I wouldn't use it to train for racing (unless you do 3 or more laps), but it's great to go out and have a good time on. Yes, there is some horse poop on the trail, but you'll see it ahead of time if you'll just look where you're going. Use this trail as a "something different" trail or if you're just giving Mtn. Biking a first shot.

Recommended Route:
If you're standing in the parking area looking at the main road, go left like you're leaving the park, then take your first left. Bear right at the "y" and the trail picks up on your right in about 150 yards. About a half mile into the woods, watch for a right-handed switchback off the main trail. It's easy to pass. If you take a right and go over 3 jumps about 100 yards later, you're on the right trail.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Chickasaw Trace, Lock 4

Summary:
i grew up on this trail. i live in fairview, and the owner ms. bowie was a family friend and i was allowed to ride it long before the city had taken over the trail system. they have done a great job.
this trail isn't too bad.. actually it is very peacefull. if you are a freerider like myself, you may wish for more jumps.. though there is a triple jump section where you can soar if you have the nuggets.
i enjoy riding there, no it is not difficult, even my sister and girlfriend can ride with me, and that's what it's all about... fun. i would not make over an 1/2 hour drive to ride this trail, but if you are in the neighborhood.. ride it.
also, call before you ride they close if it even mists. 615-799-5544

Recommended Route:
perimeter is the only real way to go.

Summary:
Apparently this trail has changed a great deal in the last 7-10 years since it has become Bowie Park from Fairview Nature Park. Word is it used to be suited to MBrs, but now I think they are trying to run us off. It is now more of a walking trail for old people and riding trail for horsebackers, they even close the trail off to MBrs on some days. Most trails are very wide and covered with mowed grass, extremely boring. There really is only one good route to take, it's about 45min or less to ride. It's a quick easy ride but fun.

Recommended Route:
Take the Perimeter Trail whichs starts from across the drive from the bathrooms. Near the end take the fork to the right to the Dome Trail. This jaunts across a field to a pretty fast section with a few quick jumps that ends at the bridge. This will be the most fun section of the trail which is great because you can loop it back around and takes less than 5min to do.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
If you have a bit more time to spare go to Montgomery Bell, it's about another 1/2 hour away but a much better park. It is also much more challenging, the easy rides seem advanced compared to Fairview.
