Young Park MTB Trails

The trail is 100% single track that probaly has no more than 75 ft of elevation change but by the time you finish the ride you have changed elevation several thousand feet, it is very hilly and technical. A great ride for the average rider and unreal for the advanced!!

Summary:
I road this trail for the first time on July 4th 2006, it is an excellent work out and a very fun ride. I clocked it at about 7.5 miles from trail head to trail end. My max speed was approximately 20mph.

There were some tough up hills but they were usually followed by an equally fun downhill. I hit two or three sweet drops and a few technical spots, nothing to fancy though. Some points of the trail were very fast paced but watch out for loose soil on the switchbacks. Don't worry about getting lost because the trails are (at least while I was there) very, very well marked. I think Pepsi sponsors them, if you ride the trail you will see why I say that.

Fred Young Park is really MTB friendly. They even have a rack to hang your bike from so you can clean it off with their water hose. As well as restrooms and a water fountain down by the baseball fields. It is defiantly worth the 90 min or so drive from Memphis.

All and all I would give this trail a 4 out of 5.

Recommended Route:
For the full experience start at the trail head from the MTB parking lot it was pretty clearly labeled. It will lead you through a twisty hellish warm up path then you will cross the road and hit the fun trail. You wouldn't be missing to much by skipping the trail head and starting from the first road crossing (you will see it when you drive up to the parking lot, it's clearly marked).

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Stanky Creek, Tour De Wolfe, Wolfe River Trails, Lake Land Trails.

Summary:
A great trial! As previously stated it is in a hilly area with lots of short ups and downs. This is a fairly technical trail and a excellent workout. The decents build-up a decent amount of speed. The climbs are difficult because they usually start after a hairpin or 90 degree turn, so you lose any momentum you previously had. There is plenty of tight twisty singletrack, but sometimes it is too twisty causing you to lose too much speed. I'm from Memphis, TN and would describe this trail as having the best of Stanky Creek and Tour de Wolf put together. It took me the same amount of time to ride 3.1 miles here as it does to ride 6.5 miles at TDW. This was due mostly to the climbing and a little bit due to the super twisty parts. It is definitely worth the 60 to 90 minute drive from the Memphis area.

Recommended Route:
I still haven't found the beginning of the trail. The three places I entered the trail had singletrack going in both directions. I park in the first parking lot on your right when you enter the park as previously suggested.

Summary:
I ride this trail 3 or 4 times a week it is all single track that is constantly up and down hill. It will give you a work out.

Recommended Route:
Start in the first parking lot on the right.
