Lots of short loops branching off of the main trail with jumps, steep drop-offs, creek crossings. To impress the ladies, take the long staircases down in front of the women's dorm. If you want a steep climb, take the sidewalk from university dr. to college dr., then up Sunkist Terrace. Get ready for granny gear. Once at the top, go through the gate and look for a trail at the end of the clearing on the right.
From Chattanooga, take Collegedale exit on Lee Hwy about 4 or 5 miles. Go straight through 2 stop lights, and up to a 4-way stop. Take right unto University Dr, past Southern Adventist University, look for apartment complexes named Florida,Tennessee,Georgia, etc. and take a right at the end of the complexes. Trailhead is right in front of you.
Summary: As Kathie from Cleveland suggested, this is a very good training trail. There are numerous, steep climbs with the payoff downhills that follow. There are enough roots and rocks to keep you focused and with the addition of the latest section that runs close to the ridge top there is greater longevity than ever before. This is a good choice for during-the-week tuneups and it will keep you in shape for the weekend epics. I have given it a "4" aerobic rating which is accurate for those who choose the right paths. MUCH poison ivy this year as well as mosquitoes and deer flies. My overall rating of three would be higher if there were simply more distance to be covered.
Recommended Route: I like the entrance by the married dorms. From there, follow your instincts.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Ocoee/Chilhowee

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: Anything from easy to hard. main trail - easy, mostly flat; short steep, long and gradual (3) anything else - difficult Watch out for fallen trees. One spot at the moment has about 15 trees down in about fifty feet. But don't exspect to find yourself there on accident. The trees are on the ridge and only the most insane people (like myself) will try to go strait up a mountain about 30 for what seems like forever for fun.
Recommended Route: I 75 sr 317 east Turn into SAU once through SAU there will be some apartment buildings on the right and the trail head is at the far end of them. If you go up the hill turn around and try again.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Booker T. Washington State Park

Summary: It a good trail, lots of people bike it, it has lots of up hills and DH's...If you take the main trail there are lots of Jumps that were made, watch out for the root that sticks up really high, u might endo.
Recommended Route: go into collegedale, and go to the dorms that say Tennessee, colorado etc.... its on the right. Or go to 'robinson farm estates' behind Ooltewah middle, drive down the main road till it dead ends, and ride a short single track trail till u get outta the woods, then go on the main road goin in to collegedale.
Other recommended trails in the same area: go riding down the steps at the college, and show off in front of the fine collge chicks, and go to the village market, and playaround there jumpin speed bumps and ridin stairs, they sell SOBE lizard fuel at the village market...yummmm

Summary: I ride this trail 1-2 times weekly. It is a great training/endurace trail. Beginners will probably want to stay on the main trail (it runs straight thru - you can either ride the road back to your car or turn around and go back. There are MANY trails to choose from that shoot off the main one. Many great, technical downhills and killer uphills. Most trails loop back into the main one but be careful - you CAN lost!
Recommended Route: Start behind the education building at Southern College (trail marked there)for a good downhill beginning or go to the entrance behind the married student dorms for a long uphill beginning.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Either Chilhowee or the trails behind the Ocoee Whitewater Center.
