Iron Creek

A single track trail that follows Iron Creek. Multiple stream crossings. Four miles out and back. Or continue on the gravel road (no traffic) through Camp Remington to Needles Highway. That route is about 10 miles round trip.

Summary:
The trail is pretty easy with the exception of 11 stream crossings in the 3 miles of trail. The trail looks like it gets mostly used by horses so it's a little wider and more torn up than other trails. Good if your in the area and looking to cool off in the summer. Most of the stream crossings are passable with lower water levels, otherwise passable by foot.

Recommended Route:
park of off 16a and ride up, continue on the forest road past it for more miles. Out and back.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Storm MT and many, many more.

Summary:
This trail is what is left for biking in an area that once had great riding before the adjoining area was designated as a Wilderness Area in 2002.

This is a fun hot day ride as it's in the bottom of a canyon and you will get wet. The trail is easy single track with only a little bit of challenge at the stream crossings.

Unfortunately, this area has become a riding area with few options. The only real management change associated with the Wilderness designation was eliminating mountain bikes--and this was an area that few people rode anyway.

Recommended Route:
Out and back. When the trail ends, keep riding on the gravel road up through Camp Remington for some extra distance in a cool, dark canyon. If you get to the Needles Highway, the Centennial Trail continues south for some good riding. Keep out of the Wilderness--it is well signed.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Centennial trail--especially in northern Custer State Park.

Grace Coolidge trail in Custer State Park.

Storm Mountain near Rockerville.

Mickelson Trail.
