This is some of the best single track in eastern South Dakota! Enter the park at the trails entrance (look for the trails sign). From the entrance just after you pass the information booth look for a parking lot on the right. The first trail starts here and you will want to ride it in a clockwise direction. This first trail is a good warm up for the longer and more hilly "main" trail. After you make the loop on the first trail you will come out across from a picnic area. Ride into this area and you will see the trail head. This trail will really test your hill climbing skills. Follow the signs as you ride and you will make a counter-clockwise rotation. There are some scenic overlooks of the river and a couple of gnarly down hill runs to compensate for all the climbing.

Summary:
Please look at the dates of the reviews for most of the trails in South Dakota. L&C is a perfect example of out dated reviews. By far the worst place to ride in the Siouxland area. All of the trails are at least wide enough to drive a 4 wheeler through or two really fat horses, which is what primarily uses these trails. The trails have been maintained in such a way that only horses can get through some of the climbs. They apparently took a bulldozer through all of the trails, then went through and put a consistent 2" layer of a gravel/ground asphalt mixture down on the climbs. I'm a decent climber, but I spin for thirty seconds and move three feet forward, not enjoyable. Brings tears to my ears, because the trails are very scenic and the topography has potential to be the great trails that it sounds like they were at one time.

Summary:
As the previous reviewer stated, it is essentially the equivalent of a gravel road. But worse, all the decent climbs have been very rutted by horses. I guess you could ride the flat parts.

Summary:
Very Sad!!! The park service is turning the "main trail" into a dirt road, and restricted the "short trail" to hikers only.

This fall they scraped and plowed the main trail into a jeep-trail width road of deep sand. Next they plan to mix asphalt in with the sand to "stabilize" the base. When they are done, they will have a dirt road that's wide and smooth enough for park maintenance vehicles to use--as well as cyclists. Bye-bye singletrack.

The park service seems sincere in their belief that most cyclists prefer a dirt road to single track.

Recommended Route:
Single track trails in eastern South Dakota should be put on the endangered species list. I guess the main trail will still be there, and it will still have great views and tough hills.

Summary:
It's either up or down , with a variety of sandy spots and hardpack to gravel , trails offer great views of the Missouri River and theres a Lagoon at the end of the trail if you can find the trail going to it .
