FATS - Skinny Loop

6 miles of jumps and bumps. It connects the Great Wall Loop to The Brown Wave. One side is 1.8 miles and the other is 4.2 miles to the junction to The Brown Wave. This trail is full of the typical jumps and berms these trails have. No huge climbs. The easiest ride at FATS is probably out of the parking lot, around this loop and back to the car.

Summary:
Wow! That is all I can say. This trail system had me saying "That was fun as H*ll!" over and over on the drive home. There are tons of great jumps and this trail just seems to flow but throws just enough technical stuff in to keep you one your toes. I rode 4 out of the five trails and had a blast. The trail tricks you in regards to climbs. I felt like I was going downhill 90% of the time.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Harbison in Columbia is fun, but has more up hill. Or at least it feels like it.

Summary:
Rode this today & I must say I HAD A BLAST! I really did not need my 6 inch travel Ellsworth...but heh I gota ride what I brung! Hardtail with front suspension is reall all ya need for this ROLLER COASTER TRAIL SYSTEM!

ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW! I came from California a little over a year ago & have been a "only" dirt ridder for over 20 years! I have ridden many different trails over these years & have been on some very technical stuff....THIS TRAIL SYSTEM IS A SMOOTH ROLLER COASTER FUN RIDE!

I have been used to pedaling uphill for miles & then bombing down single track...thats how ya do it in the west. I don't know how they did it with this system but it really feels like you are constantly going, going, going! By my standards I really did not experience any grueling climbing at all!?? That is why I said....."I don't know how they did it!?"...Well I am going back!....When I left the parking lot I called 2 buddies in California to say "I finally found some REALLY fun single track!...that's howh much fun it was.

I only rode two trails while I was there "The Skinny" & I think "The Wall"...like I said no real climbing at all & yet it felt like I was going downhill quite a bit with no real "uphill"!!????!!

Like Arnold says "I'll Be Back"!...like next week!...U gotta go ride this park...wow!

Summary:
Very much a typical trail for FATS..excellent single track. Whoops bumps and jumps...however my least favorite at FATS. Worth riding if you have the energy left after the other 3 trails.

Summary:
Fun, fast with alot of bumps, dips and jumps....typical trail at FATS. This trail is the only singletrack route to lead you the The Brown Wave. Most folks get sucked into riding it clockwise, but I prefer Counterclockwise - enough to insist I ride that direction about every time I am there. CCW, the Skinny starts with the first of several "runs to the powerlines". These runs are DH, full of jumps, twists and berms. The third time you come to the powerlines, you cross them and go out what we call "pecker point" (look at the map and you'll see it). At the very bottom of pecker point starts a three mile section that is almost all uphill back to the start of the loop. It is not steep and not 100% all uphill. But for a trail at this elevation it is a long sustained climb (again never really steep).

Recommended Route:
COUNTER CLOCKWISE. I can't say this enough. If all you are riding is the Skinny Loop: Leave the parking lot. Straight at the Deep Step intersection. Left at the Great Wall intersection. Cross the gravel road. Take a hard right at the next intersection. This is the hard one one to make - ya gotta really know it's there and not just flow straight onto the Skinny (as that will be CW). After the 90 degree right turn, go 150' and make a left onto the Skinny Loop. Then ride it all the way around. To stay on the Skinny Loop, don't turn at the Brown Wave intersection.

A good way to ride the Skinny Loop CCW is to ride the Great Wall Loop first in the CCW direction. Then turn right onto the first turn available to put you on the Skinny. This two loop ride is about 14 miles total.

Summary:
First time at a FATS trail and ended up taking the Skinny Loop. It wasn't intentional it just seemed to be where the trail took us and I never noticed another trail that must lead to TBW but it must be there.

Anyways...the trail was a blast to ride....not very technical but loads of fun and a great workout. The dips can be whatever you make of them....too much speed and you will be in the club.

I'd highly recommend the trail...and can't wait to try the others in the FATS system.

Recommended Route:
Clockwise is how I took it however I think it would be equally fun in either direction.
