FAS - Deep Step Loop
3 reviews
5 of 5
The Deep Step loop at FATS is the shortest and perhaps most demanding loop. To get on it, make the first right turn about 300'' out of the parking lot. Ride the stick of the lollipop and when you get to an intersection, you are on about the highest spot on the loop. Either way is excellent and turns downhill pretty quick. Clockwise has been decribed as a world class Super D course. Very fast, big hits, downhill most of the way, one grunt of a climb and downhill again. CCW is of equal quality. This loop has a very short, but sweet section of primitive singletrack that is in the "Best 7/10''s" section of the old school Tower Trail. When you have crossed the road after the long downhill, the payback begins. Both directions have a nice climb back up with some short steep pitches. The Deep Step Loop takes the most effort of the four loops out there. But it may offer the most fun as well.
I think a ride out of the parking lot, the Deep Step Loop and back is 5.9 miles. I think the loop is about 5.25 miles and the rest is the out/back of the lollipop stick.
Summary: Very fast trail with Jumps and whoops and some climbing. This trail has longer clims than the rest of FATS and whoops that are spread out more. My second favorite at FATS...Brown wave is my favorite.
Recommended Route: We rode it CCW at the advice of a local rider.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Rest of FATS, Lick Fork

Summary: Rode all of FATS today and I cannot believe how blown away I was by the trail. Hats off to the builders and all the people who have put in time workingout there. It is an awsome place to rip it up!!! "Get after it Wanda!!" I and a buddy drove from ATL and we left there dumbstruck!!
Recommended Route: Just make all right hand turns and you wont' get lost but I was luckly my buddy had been there before.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Can't say because not from the area.

Summary: Big hits, high speed, some steep pitches to climb. Big fun. This is the shortest of the four loops at FATS, but it may be the most demanding.
Recommended Route: Out of the parking lot, first right about 500' in. Ride the lollipop stick to the loop. At the loop, either direction is good. Ride the loop back to this spot and back out the lollipop stick.
To shuttle the loop, you can ride down one side and when you get to the paved road, turn onto the road and it's a 1 mile ride up the road to the trail and you can go down the other direction.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Brown Wave, Skinny, Great Wall. Modoc, Turkey Creek, Wine Creek, Horn Creek.
