Tour De Dump (Southside)
38 reviews
 4.29 of 5

This trail has quite alot to offer: Short steep decents, tight single track, creek crossings, mud, sand, roots, rocks, bunny hop-able logs, you name it's there. most of the trail is easily rideable by beginers, but beware: the powerline section can be dangerous (I've got a knarly collar bone to prove it!) The trail has two loops the first about 5.5, and the 2nd about 3.5.

Summary:
At this point, I have ridden this park once, but intend to try and hit it once a month. I like the fact that it is in Spartanburg, close to home for me. The park is very well maintained, thanks to UMBA. We rode a little over 12 miles, at least according to my bike computer, and did Southside Loop, Indian Trail, Rock Creek, and Centerline (twice). Normally we ride Paris Mt, but trying to get out and see other trails. This was very easy, with the exception of the big drops on Indian Trail - those are intense. Had a GREAT time riding the park - highly recommended, beginners can walk through the tough parts.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Paris Mt - but be ready for steeper, more technical (as in more frequently technical than here) trails, a beginner might find themselves walking more than riding here.

Summary:
Basically this is some of the best trails in SC you can get in a great ride about 4+ hours depending on what trails you take. These trails are great cause it all loops so no riding the same trail like at other places. There is also lots of creek crossing which are fun and some spots have VERY hard uphill and then very fast downhill. Like its been said b4 this trail has a lot to offer and is well maintained and marked. Since it is so well marked(with trail maps at each intersection) if you get lost there is something wrong with you. these trails are awesome and worth the drive.

Recommended Route:
First take the left loop the climb up scots hill(pretty hard) but the downhill is very worth it. Then take the high and dry trail and then the rock creek trail. after riding those trails it brings you the centerline trail ride it the top and ride the right side loop back down to the center line trail again. Oh and be sure to hit up the lizard trail its new and lots of fun!

Summary:
After purchasing my bike I went stright to Southside. Now I call it a second home. It is everything I wanted in a bike trail. Technical singles, big jumps, great scenes, wildlife, wonderful downhills and challenging ups. I rotate direction and find both equally bad ass. As I upgrade my Trek 3900, I find myself looking for larger drops. Idaho will deliver! I find some of the riders I run into snobby but I guess their everywhere.

Recommended Route:
Any which way but down. Every trail is a 5, every direction is a 5. Go opposite of the 30+ year old snobs and hags.

Summary:
The Southside trail (Tour de Dump) is decieving. Most of it is no harder than Leroy Springs, which I believe rates a three in tech. BUT there are some portions that are definitly more technical than anything I have yet seen at Leroy. The trail itself is dynamite. VERY scenic, with just about every type of hazard imaginable. I took the northern half of the perimeter trail, the whole of which is better known as the Southside loop. This is, from what I hear, the less technical part of the whole loop, and I believe it, having gotten lost a couple of times and seeing some of what te rest has to offer.

Which brings me to the bad points of this ride. Although there are maps available it the Parking lot/start, these are pretty much useless on the actual trails as with but a few exceptions, the trails themselves are NOT marked. To make matters worse, there are many more trails in R.L. than are listed on the map, so it is almost impossible to figure out where you are and what direction you are headed. Map or no map.

The few intesections I saw (all on the first portion of the northern half, clockwise direction) that are marked are done so very well, with maps showing your exact location. However, the rest of the trails do not have these maps, just blank plaques. And most of the intersections don't even have that. As a result, by the time I finally managed to find the parking lot again, I had ridden much further than I was able, and was barely able to limp back in.

Because of this, instead of giving these trails the 4 chilli's it should have, I'm provisionally dropping it's rating down to 2 chilli's, until this problem is fixed.

Recommended Route:
I would recommend, unless you are very sure of your technical skills, that you take this half, and in a clockwise direction, as what is difficult this way, would easily be near insurmaountable to all but the more experienced rider in reverse (CCW). Also, due to the serious need for trail identification, unless you can go with someone who really knows these trails, I would avoid this trail like the plague until they get around to properly identifying the proper trails.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
This is my first venture into the Spartanburg region, but if you're willing to travel, you may want to check out Leroy Springs and Rennisance Park for some easier fun.

Summary:
Awesome ride! I'm new to mountain biking and have been trying trails listed on this site and this is the best I've ridden by far. This trail gives you a taste of everything you can expect to run into at some point. Whoop-dee-do's, logs to jump, creek crossings, sand, mud, wooden bridges, down hills, some up hills (just enough to get the ole heart pumping), and some very fast sections. Not to mention a few technical areas. There was about a 3 to 4 acre area with some kind of 1.5ft tall weed that was realitivley flat that you can absolutly fly through. The only draw back to my ride is my riding buddy fell hard during a creek crossing and tore a ligament in his ankle. I had to push both our bikes the last 1.5 mile to the parking lot while he hobbled along. Any one new to this sport like me or any experienced rider should give this place a go.

Recommended Route:
Only ridden once here and it was clockwise but then again that seems to be the preferred route by most reviewers.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Saddlers Creek, Issaqueena
