Sesqui State Park

Very sandy, which is loose during the summer and packed during the winter. Not very technical, some tight sections, a few short, steep climbs.

Trail Directions
Take I-77 to Exit 17, Two Notch Road/Hwy. 1. Signs indicate which direction to take towards Sesqui, which will be on your right about 2 miles after the exit. Turn right into the park. The best place to park is by the "convention center" (really a small meeting building) on the left about 1/2 mile into the park. The trail begins to the left by the fitness trail. There is a small trail fee.

Summary:
Stopped off the interstate for a quick ride and was somewhat disappointed. The "trail" has very deep sand at the beginning of the trail. It gradually turns into some decent singletrack. However, this is short lived. The park has great potential for development. I wish that they would work more on the trail system.

Recommended Route:
The route is somewhat tough to follow. Just find a trail and hope for the best.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Santee State Park.

Summary:
This trail is OK if you want to get in a quick ride. It does have a good bit of sand on it but it doesn't bother me that much. Not much climbing or technical stuff. I ride this tral sometimes after work when I don't have time to get out to Harbison ot to K3. You have to watch out for joggers on the bike trails. It's nice having a trail pretty much 10 minutes from downtown.

Recommended Route:
Parking lot to the loop, lather-rinse-repeat

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Harbison, K3

Summary:
I just returned from riding this trail today. Drove an hour to ride it and to see some friends while in Columbia. Today is Sunday (early June) - it rained, and rained hard, every single day this week and this track was still sandy as a beach. They don't call this area the sandhills for nothing. I was about half way around the 6 mile loop and finally saw no sand in site on this downhill section... so I started hammering hard but what waits for me around the curve??? Another deep sand pit!!! Ate it hard. Thank goodness for helmets. Don't ride this trail unless it's raining cats and dogs in the middle of winter -- actually, don't ride it at all. I sure wont be returning. Now I know why the parking lot at the trail head was empty. I like a workout and all but I nearly asked for my $2 back after riding this beach. Harbison State forest, sorry I betrayed you for a day, I'm back now. I'd rate this trail a 2 out of 10, 10 being Tsali.

Recommended Route:
clockwise i guess

Other recommended trails in the same area:
HSF, Lynches woods, -- not sand hills (cheraw) or killer 3 (wedgefield) or this one... entirely too frustrating.

Summary:
Not as bad as some previous reviews. Sand everywhere but quiet and a different type of terrain. If every trail were the same it would not be cross country cycling.

Recommended Route:
Try it both ways, I prefer Tue Thur Sat Sun route.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Harbison Forest
