GOOD TRAIL LOTS OF GOOD POINTS WISH THERE WERE MORE MUD AS FOR ME AND MY FELLOW RIDERS WE LIKE MUD . THE TRAIL OFFERS LOTS OF AREA,S THAT ONLY GOOD RIDERS SHOULD TRY .. AS FOR THE UPKEEP ITS ALWAYS FUN TO RIDE .

Summary:
I went up on June 30 and rode this trail - and it is awesome in the summer. The best section is 4 miles and runs from the intersection of FS 505/506 to the RR tracks. Be sure to hit the short section of Cedar Spring MX trail just before the tracks. Cross the tracks and make a right into the singletrack about 100 yards up from the tracks. This crosses a gravel road, and then takes you to the fork in the trail which is the northern point of the "C/G Connector" - you will see a carsonite sign with a "C" on it. Go straight across the road, don't go left towards "G" (too overgrown). From here it gets sketchy on where to go. The best bet is to go left at a cemetary (hard to identify) and get on a trail that will take you back to FS 505. Go right and down the hill. Eventually - you will cross "Memorial Bridge" and I'd just stay on FS 505 until you cross the trail again. Take a right onto the trail. Ride this to the big sign outside Fell Hunt Camp. Go right at the sign and follow the trail thru a field and all the way to SC 33. From here, turn around and ride back to the intersection of FS 505/506. This is true multi-use singletrack in a back county setting. This trail sees alot of horse use below the RR tracks - so please don't spook the horses. There is more to the trail, but I didn't ride those sections and here they are overgrown with nettle and poison ivy. In the winter, there is not this much to ride as it holds water bad - but in the summer it is special!

Summary:
The Long Cane Horse Trail is fun to ride if it is dry. It has a very poor design that allows the trail to gather water and the trail itself becomes the conduit for the water to move down the hills. This creates nasty ruts in the trailbed and mudholes at the bottoms of the hills. The stuff near 505/506 is higher and dryer, but still doesn't drain as well as it could if it were in a better location. If dry, this trail is a 5, if not it is a 1. Unfortunately, it will be a while before this trail is dry again.

Recommended Route:
Either direction on the horse trail.
