Weekend Warrior Summary: This is not a destination serious mtb'ers would seek for an epic ride. It's flat and unchallenging. I think it's strength is as an additional activity if you are already visiting the island for other reasons. It's a very scenic, casual, peaceful ride - something you would take your kids on. If I were there on vacation I'd bring my bike for morning rides just to get the heart pumping. I rated it a 3 because it's such a scenic, peaceful area (at least in January it's peaceful). Recommended Route: There's only one! Hwy 21 Other recommended trails in the same area: I wish

Cross Country Rider Summary: I have been traveling to Hunting Island for several years and stayting at the campground just to ride. This is one of my favorite places to ride as the scenary is beautiful as you pass through barrier island forests that are becoming a thing of the past. If you visit, try out the trail that starts just before you reach the park office and ends at the trail leading to the fishing pier. This trail was abandoned but was opened up by a local rider on his own time over the last year. This trail is quite the challenge and is much more technical than any other on the island. It snakes up and down the old dune lines and has some short but steep climbs. Length is approx 3 miles and runs the front of the island and is very close to the highway in spots. Recommended Route: Begin on trail from campground and travel the length of the island. Don't miss riding the trail that runs the length of the lagoon. The lagoon area is where the Vietnam scenes in Forrest Gump were filmed so check out the movie to see what the area looks like.

Weekend Warrior Summary: This is the first time I had ever been out to Hunting Island. The sad part, is the fact that I've lived in Beaufort for about 1.5 years and about a 1 before that before a deployment. The park itself, I think is beautiful. I'm from Florida and you don't see parks like this anywhere down there. VERY well maintained with Park Rangers and Custodians. The trails are clearly marked and easy to find. I think i started off the wrong way because I hit sand almost right away. I have a 2.5 tire so i made it a good way before i had to walk a little. Once you get into the actual trees, the ride is nice and scenic. Its mostly singletrack with a little doubletrack and a couple ups and downs and small downhill sections. The strait aways are clear and speed addicting. Not much for jumps though. I tried a couple times to get enough speed to get even 2 ft off the ground but it didn't happen. This is a good workout and the amount of trails available are numerous if you decide to get off the main trails for a while. Nice and cool during the winter but I bet it is bug infested during warm weather. Overall its a great ride. I went on a Friday and I was the only one there ALL morning. GREAT view of the beach from the parking lot. Recommended Route: Take Hwy 21 via Beaufort past lady's island, and st helen island. Once you pass the second moving bridge, wait until you see the sign enterance to the park. You'll have to pay about $4 for the load but its well worth it. Go on to parking lot and unload. From there, choose your destiny. Other recommended trails in the same area: not many to list really within an hours drive. Tom Tripplett park down in Pooler, Ga. If you are willing to travel 2+, go up to Columbia or Sumter, or over to Roswell or Athens, Ga.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Nice change up from the mountains of TN. Liked learning to trudge through the sand. You can get some serious speed up on those straight aways. Quiet, don't remember running across anyone else riding any of the days I was there. Beach a fab plus to visit after!

, from Bolton, ON, Canada Summary: We ride this every year we are down for march break. A great warm up ride to park but watch out for gators on the trails. Riding through the lagoon we met a very large intruder and it was not a white tail deer. After trails stop and have a beer at the beech but not b4 you do some riding in the ruins. There is an old buiding from the turn of the century that must be ridden. After take the beach back and reccomend afternoon when tide is back. you can actually ride the firm ocean sand while the tide is 100 yards in. This is trully an awesome ride back. Wash your bike with fresh water after ride due to sea salt. Recommended Route: From litchfield resort. Take paved trail to Park 2M. Ride all park singletrack and finish with some urban at the old ruins. Take beach back to Resort. 14-15M ride. Other recommended trails in the same area: No other trails but if anyone wants to ride Ontario
