Weekend Warrior Summary: The Harbison State Park trails are very well maintained. Good facilities with a bike wash at the entrance. Well marked trails with trail maps available at the entrance. Their is a $5 (01.13.07) car and bike fee or a $25 annual pass. Lots of parking. For a online trail guide check out http://www.state.sc.us/forest/refhartg.htm.
This trail is great for beginners too. Just be sure to grab a trail description and stay off the technical loops.
Recommended Route: This trail is best ridden clockwise. This allows one to experience the descents on the Firebreak loop and climb the fireroads at the opposite end on the Midlands Mountain loop. The Spider Woman II loop is very challenging with steep climbs and decents with switchbacks thrown in. Lots of off camber portions on this loop.
Other recommended trails in the same area: FATS.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Rode the fire road and the middle mtn trails. Not technical at all, a little sloppy in a few crossings, but mostly just leaf covered. Couple small climbs. All was middle ring, could have rode the big ring some. Good cardio workout. This forest is an urban interface system, and seems well managed. The $5 for fee is OK. Good water at T/H. The system is well marked. The area is clean and littler free. Some old logging roads, some two track and a little single trak. Recommended Route: Pick your poison, All are well marked.

Cross Country Rider Summary: This trail is "OK" considering that the state of South Carolina IS NOT mountain biker friendly! DO not come to this "Park" looking for any downhill sections longer than 300-500 yards! HOWEVER, you will like this trail system if you are a "Cross County" rider. It is NOT technical unless maybe this is all you know OR you are a road bike rider. For those that have ridden anywhere else in the county or world for that matter & you like to "GO UP" as well as "COME DOWN" you will be disappointed to travel to this "Park". Like I said it is a "Cross County" riders "DREAM PARK"! Also it is NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to do an "EPIC RIDE" here as the park is small & you would have to ride in circles to get in "miles". Funny, I have been riding mountain bikes for over 18 years & I have NEVER seen a "Peloton" on dirt trail like a saw 2 Saturdays ago! heh-heh ...Watch out for the "serious" cross country, "rodie style" of rider that seems to frequest this "Mountain Bike???" Park. I will say that I am learning to love this park as it is the closest to my house & is virtually only one of 4 options within 20 miles of where I live.

Cross Country Rider Summary: I am new to Mt. biking and have jsut recently quit smoking. I started riding with a friend and he introduced me to Harbison. Great beginner not too hard but a little technical in some areas. We are going to tackle spider woman this Sunday and I am looking forward to it. These trails are great, you can choose exactly how long and how hard you want to ride. We ride 3 times a week and it is great!! Recommended Route: We take Firebreak to Stewardship to Midlands to back to the back end of Firebreak to finish up...we are going to add in Spiderwoman soon...2.5 to 4 hours
We take a shorter route during the week, but it is a great way to start your day off...45 minutes to 1 hour

Weekend Warrior Summary: I drove up from Beaufort (2hrs) to ride this trail. I wasn't sure if it would be worth the trip, but I went anyway. I rolled up in the parking lot paid and headed out on the trail. By the time I was done I had a huge smile plastered on my face. It was well worth the trip, and I look forward to riding there again! Recommended Route: I rode the longest loop through as many trails as possible. I took firebreak trail west to the connector. The connector met up with stewardship where I hung a left turn. Eventually I ran into midlands then broke off onto spiderwoman 2. From Spiderwoman 2 I got back onto midlands mtn. and then finished off on firebreak trail east back to the parking lot. This is a long and challenging route, but VERY FUN! Other recommended trails in the same area: Killer 3 & Hardcore/Sumter
