Cross Country Rider Summary: Baker Creek is approximately nine miles of tough roots, short climbs and dips. It will get your attention and keep it for the entire ride.
If you are looking for a cruiser, go elsewhere. If you want to ride something that will make your body scream and beg for full suspension, here it is. I didn't say that you can't ride it w/o FS, but FS makes life easier here! From the trailhead, you can go either way: CW or CCW. This past week my wife and I took a lap in each direction. By the end of the 17 mile ride, we were smiling from ear to ear and beaten down! A stop at the nearby Subway fixed our hunger, and then it was time to drive fifteen minutes and hit another local trail: Hickory Knob. We drive about 45 minutes to ride these and try to do them at least every 6 weeks.
The local park ranger Todd takes a personal interest in this trail, and it shows. Trees are regularly cleared and the trail is cleared of other debris as necessary. This trail is a local gem for our area and gets limited use only because it is a demanding SOB, plus it is kinda remote! If you come here, be ready to ride! Recommended Route: The wife and I do them both. Heck, they both hurt! Other recommended trails in the same area: Hickory Knob is only five minutes away and is a great, less-intensive trail. HK has beautiful lake views!

, from Beaufort, SC Summary: Very tough trail for a novice or a roadie. Lots of ditches to traverse without any bridge. Fast technical downhill sections are quicky followed by slow climbs. A few stream crossings trown in for good measure. I didn't ride the entire trail. I found the trail challenging and will try to go back and ride the whole route. Excellent assistance from the Park Manager with decent camping facilities.

, from Greenville, SC Summary: Rode this trail for the first time today with my 13-year old son. This is a clean, well-maintained trail, that has more than enough technical sections for a beginning rider like myself. Probably a little more difficult than Hickory Knob, which we rode two weeks before. Having facilities at the pavilion is a big plus. Great fun. We'll definitely be back. Recommended Route: We rode clockwise. Other recommended trails in the same area: Hickory Knob

, from Fall Branch, TN Summary: Great trail. The folks in SC State Parks sure know how to attract mtn bikers. A trail that can be ridden in either direction. Beginners can learn how to ride trails and intermediate/advanced riders can sure ride fast enough to thrill themselves. All different terrain makes very interesting ride. Short climbs, switchbacks, dippity-dos, logs, woods, a few open meadows, lake views. It has it all. We drive from TN many times a year to ride this trail. Good have some fun Recommended Route: Either direction Other recommended trails in the same area: Hickory Knob, Sadlers Creek, Hamilton Branch, Turkey Creek, Stevens (Modoc) Creek, Horn Creek.
