Cross Country Rider Summary: Some fun stuff just on the powerlines themselves with ample opportunities to sneak off into the woods on the "forbidden" Wolf Hill trails. Haven't really explored the woods yet, but the powerlines offer tons of rollers and craggy drops. Try starting from the powerlines on 104 and head towards Mountaindale. Some nasty granite faces along the (tumbled on a gnarly one on the right), ride fast to the roller with the drops, up and down toward Wolf Hill Trail, stay on lines and keep left towards the powerstation for a fun roller to pavement to drop across Mountaindale and continue for a few minutes worth of fun. Head back into the woods if you like. Other recommended trails in the same area: The powerlines starting at Iron Mine Hill Rd. in N. Smithfield, ride as far as you want, you can go forever, all sorts of quadtrack offshoots along the way.

, from Smithfield, RI Summary: Head north past power sub-station. Stay off private paved driveway. Ride over buried gas lines, it's grassy and a good warm-up. Take the right at intersection with dirt road. Ride to the crest of the hill. South (right) into pines. Left to abandoned foundation with chimney. There is a lot of glass! Good view though. (I don't get many flats here.) Loop north to intersection with same dirt road. Climb to the crest. (There are several trails that you can checkout later, on your right.) Turn north (rt) onto trail opposite your earlier entry. Stay on main trail, good speeds and jumps available. Exit to powerlines. Cross and enter woods north-west of shelf. Ride along base of the boldered cliff. Technical. Take route which parallels the powerlines north. Great white-knuckled burst in there. Be wary of private property to the west. Cross a paved road (Farnum Pike Rt104). There is fast riding through the poles on the western edge that enters the woods.Cross another road. Find the entry for a 4-6' wide path into the woods, west of the lines. Eye-watering speed possible. Don't make right hand turns- they exit to the powerlines early. Good challenging decent(at least 60' vert drop) and apparently impossible climb follow (A Mantra is not necessary, I've climbed it with a hardtail). There's a rewarding view along a looping crest, exiting with a minefield downhill. Watch those pedals! Head south along powerlines and explore the eastern side; if you don't mind riding in circles. Be wary of private property though. This will bring you back. I'm not sure of the distance. It's probably 5 to 8 miles. If you are quiet, there is a very large golden eagle to be seen near the lake in the north.
Recommended Route: Start at Mountaindale/powerlines. Other recommended trails in the same area: Lincoln Woods (above site 27 is best)
