Settler's Cabin

Average Rating:    (3.21 of 5)

Flat singletrack with plenty of slippery mud when it rains. Lots of drop-offs from the main trail leading to endless other trails. Lots of hikers and dog walkers. Be careful of deer ticks. Lyme disease abounds.

Trail Directions
Take 279 South and follow signs to the airport. Take the Campbell's Run Road Exit. Make a left at the exit and take the first left after that (Bishop's Bar will be on your right). Go under the highway overpass, and head up the hill, following signs for Settler's Cabin and the wave pool. At the top of the hill, make a right (this should be the first street you can turn right on). There are no signs at this point. Follow that road until you see a turn off for the tennis courts. Park at the end of the lot near the tennis courts, and you will see a trail running along side. Facing the courts, you will want to be heading left.

Summary:
Trails around the groves have been cleared. These are easy and flat trails. There's a decent down hill section near the park office that lead into the valley behind the office. In the valley, there is some decent riding in the up-stream direction, but recent flooding has made it difficult and this part is often used by ATVs.

Recommended Route:
Start at tennis courts, follow trail past old park road. Go up short steep hill and turn left into woods. Stay right, follow downhill to just before creek meets road and take hard right following creek. At next stream crossing in swampy area, take hill straight ahead to power line palteau. Follow uphill back to park office road. Follow improved road back to shelters. Takes about an hour. Section past old park road is difficult.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Bavington State game lands, South Park.

Summary:
These trails are okay, but are lacking the technical variety I enjoy. First off, there was way...and I mean way to many ATV's and motorcycles. I was constanly watching my back to make sure I wasn't going to get run over! The trails were quite fast, but there was nothing technical about them. Some decent climbs for the novice rider.

Recommended Route:
I don't know! I kept getting circled by ATV's!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Hartefield Acres

Summary:
Great trail for fast ride. Some technical, although not very much. Slick when wet, especially rooty sections. Also, a mud bath in main section, when water tables are normal. There are some holes that have been eroded by the ignorant four wheel and motorcycle riders, who don't believe in trial maintenance. Other than that, a good solid ride for the area. Enjoy.

Recommended Route:
Start at Tomahawk lot. Go down hill to main trail. Turn right and head to the trial end. Go down the hill, up the hill and at top of hill take trail to the left. follow to y go right, down the hill, cross road follow trail, stay right (you can go left up the steep hill and back into anoher section of trails- been there too much to explain.) cross road follow trial past beaver dam ponds, continue on trail, stay right, up hill, up slag hill, follow trial to main trail, back to Tomahawk.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Hartwood Acres, Bavington, Northpark, Roaring Run, ETC.

Summary:
Been riding the loop and the stuff in Pinkerton's Run before the wave pool (They used to ticket cars with racks when the tennis courts were built). Still amazes me that it's not more crowded. Thank god they never made this, Boyce, or Hartwood MTB Parks. Suicidal woodchucks though.

Recommended Route:
If everybody keeps parking at the tennis courts maybe the county will... NAH!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Some of the gas service roads off the Montour Trail, like Meek's Run and up around Pumpkin Hollow.

Summary:
there are many trails here. the main trail is flat with puddles, some logs, it wraps around the park. trails off the main loop lead to some steep downhills and creek crossings. this place could be great with a little work. build bridges, tetter totters, and very easily more trails, there is so much room to build trails. this place has unlimited potential with its terrain. alot of room for long downhills, logs, and some creek bridges. could be turned into a technical experience. not many people at all. ride fast, ride hard, ride alone.

Recommended Route:
go to the park office and follow the power lines, explore

Other recommended trails in the same area:
settlers cabin could be the next hartwood acres or frick, with less crowds.
