Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Cross Country Rider Summary: I thought I would give this a try with my 12 year old. It has some merit, but there are many party spots along the way where teens obviously hang out and break glass all over the place. It is a bit ugly with a mix of construction rock and black mining by-product/dirt. I guess it is just not on par with the beautiful trails I am accustomed too, of course the fact that I just rode in Colorado didn't help. I saw a cross country rider on these simple trails with a full face helmet!! How funny...like bringing a bazooka to a knife fight. People!! YOU ARE NOT AT WHISTLER'S BIKE PARK! Save the pads and full face helmets for the ski resorts! I'm surprised they don't pass out from heat exhaustion looking like a BMX racer...anyway...There are yahoos shooting guns and broken bottles and garbage, party debris everywhere in both directions, also ATVs. I go out biking to enjoy nature...not get disgusted by trashy people trashing their own environment. Recommended Route: You can go north from the Lackawanna visitors center. Park in small dirt parking lot on the right as you climb Montage Mountain Road and almost directly across from the visitors center, cross the road and find the trails to the left of the active train tracks. Fun gnarly descent into the gulch. You can also go south along the train tracks to meet up with a network of more trails right from that parking lot to Rocky Glen Pond. These tracks are inactive, some fun dips if you get speed. The pond has trails around it. Other recommended trails in the same area: Go to any of the state parks that allow mountain biking, Meril-Sarnoski or the Lackawanna State Park. They have a nice mix of single track, and there are no bums and broken glass. Pretty scenery with challenging trails.

, from Scranton Summary: I love this Trail, I can ride there from my house and I ride it at least 3 times a week. It Can be Rocky, Sandy, Muddy, In some places Rooty. The whole thing is under 15 miles. There is a nice uphill on your way to the lake Scranton. BRING TUBES(If you don't need them someone may!!! OH YEAH...ROPE SWINGS AT THE RESEVOIR!!! E-Mail me to Ride amj146@psu.edu Recommended Route: This is an awesome trail that can take you to Lake Scranton, Rocky Glen, Montage Mountain, etc... TO LAKE SCRANTON : If you park on East mountain follow the trail strait until you get to the big stream. (follow this upstream to get to Montage and Lake Scranton) Don't walk in the water, Carry your bike up to the train tracks that go over the stream and you will see a path that goes strait up the mountain about 25 feet. When you get to the top, follow the path to your right. If you go strait on this path you will pass the resevour, Montage and run right into Lake Scranton. You are not supposed to ride around the lake ,although it is fun. So turn left and then take your next left away from the lake. This will Drop you out at East Mountain Estates at the Top of East Mountain Road. Cruise downhill till you get to your car. Other recommended trails in the same area: Come on...there are tons.
