Drake's Well

This trail system is truely the hidden gem of Northwestern PA. All trails are singletrack and 95% ridable. Some parts are fast others you will encounter rocks and roots. All sections are just plain fun. Please tread lightly as there are no signs prohibiting biking, but perhaps because the sparse population of mountain bikiers in this area have not fully discovered this hidden wonder there hasn't been a need. These trails could easily be some of the best in PA - someone needs to educate the proper authorities so that they can further develop and promote this great trail system. Sorry, I dont live there anymore.

From Route 8, you will see signs to Drake Well State Park near Titusville. Park at the (paved) bike trail parking lot near Jersey Bridge. Ride up the hill of the (paved) bike trail and you will see the trailhead for the hiking/mtnbiking trails. From here your options are many. Summary:
I'm referring to the Oil Creek asphalt rails-to-trails trail--that's what I ride once a week--in addition to the East Sandy Creek and Allegheny Trails that make up Venango County's extensive Rails-to-Trails Network. I know Mr. Sutley (I graduated a year ahead of him) and I hope he realizes before he gets in trouble that there are no authorized legal single track trails in Drake Well State Park or in the Oil Creek Park area. These are for hikers only. The Rails-to-Trails sections are incredible, albeit not incredibly challenging.

Allow me to suggest nearby Two Mile Run Park's single track--which is legal. I'd hate to see Chad get into any trouble.

Recommended Route:
Single track in the area described is OFF LIMITS.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
2 Mile run. Other Rails-to-Trails suggested.

Summary:
There is no legal sigletrack in the Drake's Well SP. Their website clearly states that the hiking trails are closed to MT bikes. The only legal bike trail is the rail trail. It's a nice leisurely spin, but it's not what's described above.

Summary:
I hope the masses never discover these trails. They are technical and aerobically challenging. I grew in the area and wish everyday that I lived closer. In fact, I'm looking forward to riding there over the Christmas holidays

Recommended Route:
There are several entrances, one right by the Jersey bridge parking lot, another at the top of the hill just off the paved trail and another off the railroad tracks down by the museum/park. Take lots of water becasue there are only a few natural springs to fill up at. But you would have to know where they were and they aren't marked.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
The trails at Two mile run park are awesome also.
