West Branch Basin

Varied. Steeep initial climb up mountian. Sketchy, sidehill stretch, rocks and logs. Links to abandoned stip mine and forested side hills. I actually have a 40 mile loop with only about 4 miles of pavement scattered through out. There is also an abandoned rail bed that runs along the river and up to the headwaters of the west branch.

Summary:
Started in 1996, this system is truly a cross county dream. Actual single track is quite small. About 4 miles of handbuilt trail in Elmora and Carrolltown. The best part is the quad trails. This area is full of abandoned strip mines, refuse piles, and cycle friendly land owners. You can ride between three counties and keep the pavement to a minimum. Not many hardcore riders up here, but a small core of unorganized riders does exist. Contact me for more info if you wnat to ride cross county at any pace. mjk72@hotmail.com

Recommended Route:
The entire basin from Ebensburg north to Burnside. I know it all and know where to avoid. (grumpy old folks)

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Lural Mountain Ski Resort. Blue Knob Ski Resort, Ghosttown Trail. Prince Gallitzen State Park, Glendale Lake. Buckhorn Mountain, Bethelem Mine #33 in Ebensburg. Summerhill abandoned rail bed. State Game Lands Blandsburg mountain.
