Summary:
Craig's mountain bike shop in Eagles Mere has been closed for 2 years now... But the trails are still wild & awesome. I spent a week this summer staying at the cabins at Worlds End State park and we shuttled up out of the valley to ride to the north and south of the park (don't ride off-road in the park). A fairly good map of the State Forest (now renamed Loyalsock State Forest) is available at the park office. Just keep in mind that if it looks steep on this topo map, it will be twice as steep in real life! The singletrack trails are primarily for rugged backpacking/hiking and they don't believe in switchbacks...be prepared for sphinctor-clenching steep descents, tricky drop-offs, rocks, roots, wet areas, stream crossings and even a ladder here and there. Bring your camera, as the scenery is great with many waterfalls and vistas.

Recommended Route:
The hiking trail from just north of Sones Pond to the west is a good ride, as is the hiking trail from the Worlds End Overlook to the Lower Vista, where it's a good idea to turn around (if you continue downhill past the Lower Vista, be prepared for heinous climb back out). You can access sections of trail via the network of dirt roads that criss-cross the area. And watch out for the rattlesnakes!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
There is lot's of exploring to do here...I will be back for sure!

Summary:
Go see Craig at Eagles Mere bike shop. He has rides that leave from there twicw a day on Friday through Sunday. According to him, June and September are supreme times to ride and lodging in the area is a bargain at that time. The riding around the area is fantastic, but it is easy to get lost if you don't know the trails. Craig took us on two great rides with quite different difficulty levels. The first ride had some technical spots through (and on) rocks which culminated in a breathtaking section of trail along large boulders 20-30 ft high. The second ride was one of the most technical (according to him) in the area with several natural and man made obstacles through a very old section of pine forest. We didn't even get a chance to scratch the surface of the available trails. The place is wonderful for a technical cross-country geek such as myself. Freeriders and downhillers would probably be disappointed, but there were some long singletrack downhills and great climbs. Fortunately my father in law lives in the area so I'll be back often. Note: there are rides in the area for most levels of riders, so the aerobic and technical ratings are difficult to establish.

Summary:
Eagle's Mere contains many trails that you can ride with various degrees of aerobic and tecnical difficulty ranging from easy to difficult. The gate 7 trail takes you across many stream crossings. The scenery on the trails is awesome and Craig at the bike shop is great and also a great source for information! If you want he leads group rides starting from the shop. Check out this site for more info. http://www.eaglesmeremtnbikes.com/pages/6/index.htm Since you are in the area stop in the shop and pick up a spare tube and map. It's important to support the local bike shop, they maintain the trails and help you in whatever way they can!

Recommended Route:
Gate 7 trail; Sawtooth; Devils Play Ground

Summary:
A challenge! Make sure you get a map!,... we got lost and it wasnt easy to find our way back. This place is pretty big. Some of the trails are insanely rocky. Some of it is meant more for hiking...one section we had to throw our bikes over the shoulder and climb up. I want to go back and see what else it has to offer.

I riden these trails all of August for the past 8 years. The area is totally amazing! If your in the know over 200 miles of trails without trail geeks, problem is how do you get into the know? spend 8 augusts in a row there, see craig at eagles mere bike shop daily! Go to eagles mere real estate office and ask where bob is staying for the month of august, I'll help. Wyoming state forest has over 43,000 acres, romp your brains out, get lost we all do you will hit a paved road within 2-4 hours all will be fine you may have a 9 mile climb back to you car but what stories you getting for the trip back home.
