Rocky Ridge County Park

9 seperate trails, some of which intersect allowing the rider to do different loops
Summary: These trails are some of the best in the area. They are short, however, you can link them all together for a good ride. Every trail offers a little of everything including, small drops, roots, rock gardens and hills. There's some good speed sections too. It's great for cross country and some of the trails are good for downhill/freeride bikes as long as you don't mind a small hike. This is some of the best "free" riding around.
Recommended Route: Trails: 5,1,8,3,9
Other recommended trails in the same area: lake redman

Summary: It's my home away from home. It has a little bit of everything. Some people say the trails are too short...which is true,...however you can make your own ride because of this. You can start easy and switch to technical, or fast, or endurance,..etc. I rode in northern PA and central PA mostly until now.
Recommended Route: Any,..mix it up!
Other recommended trails in the same area: Susquehanna state park, blue marsh, lake redman (William H Kain County Park)

Summary: Some really fun trails here. Like previously stated, trails 1 and 2 are for beginners but are a good warmup for the real fun. Trail 8 has some awesome switchbacks on the downhill with some nasty climbs at the other end. Test your technical and endurance skills on trails 3, 6, and 9 but be sure to drop into 3 off of trail 2 b/c the climb at the end is nearly impossible when attacking from the other side. Negatives: must double back on trails and ride multiple times due to short length.
Recommended Route: Good ride with trails in this order: 1-2-9-8-3-8-4-5.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Redmen

Summary: I started riding @ the park since 1988 when I moved out here from Seattle. Back then it was just horse and hiking trails. The locals hikers and horse riders were amazed that I rode a bike on the trails. Now some days it hard to find a parking space in on the front lots. But its great to see just how popular the trail has become to mtnbikers. The trails are very well marked and very well maintained. As with the name of the park the some of the trails are very rocky and technical, but there are some easy gravel trails for the beginners. Its a great place for novice riders to cut their teeth on, along with their knees, elbow, and chins..Generally the other riders are friendly and willing to help with broken gear. Just watch out the dog walkers and hikers. The park closes at dusk, no legal night riding. Please obey the signs about not riding when the trails are wet. Watch out for hunters during Deer season.
Recommended Route: Just follow the signs
Other recommended trails in the same area: Lake Redman, Mt Gretna,

Summary: Trails 5,4,1 and 2 are for beginers. 8 and 3 are downhills. Take trail 3 at the far end downhill, it's almost impossible to do it uphill. The local MTB club (YAMBA) has an excellent relationship with the Parks, is very well organized and do trail maintenance often. Weekly Group Rides are sponsored (for both beginners and advanced riders) and is the best way to find your way around. Check their Yahoo site, there's always someone going for a ride.(yamba.org) As for the ride, it is ROCKY!, you don't want to fall anywhere! I got my fair share of scratches. Lots of people jogging or walking their dogs on the easy trails, so be courteous. Also, respect the layout of the trails, and all signs.
Recommended Route: Rocky Ridge County Park. From 83 South or North, take the Rte. 30 East/Arsenal Road Exit, Follow 30 E for a while and take Mt. Zion Rd North for 1 mile. After the hill when the road curves, turn right onto Deininger Rd. (Be careful, it's a sharp turn and very easy to miss). Follow 1 mile into the park.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Lake Redman. It's easier but it takes longer to dry after the winter, so it's likely to be closed on rainy seasons. As in Rocky ridge, trails are very well marked. The park is actually called William H Kain.
