Weekend Warrior Summary: Best trails I've found in the Pittsburgh area. This place has something for every type of rider. Beautiful level and slightly hilly trails following the creek and river you can follow with your girl. Moderate hills and winding trails for a little more challenge are a little futher out. Riding further will bring you to extreme uphill battles and very technical downhills. Terrain changes like no other, from paved flat land to open grassy areas with wooden trail bridges to huge rocky parts and everything in between. If you are a rider of any level, GO TO ROARING RUN! Other recommended trails in the same area: Frick Park, Boyce Park, Barking Slopes

Cross Country Rider Summary: Roaring Run has recently been added to my list of favorite trails in Western PA. This place has great trail variety with some premier technically challenging singletrack, limestone bike trail, connected by a network of fireroads. Come prepared for stream crossings, short and dramatic elevation changes, and a good collection of log and rock stunts.
The new section of trails are just across the bridge 1.6 miles down the bike trail from the parking lot and are loaded with technical obstacles. The older trails, which decorate the hillside between the parking lot and the waterfall at the top of Roaring Run.
One of the area highlights is a couple miles of fast doubletrack downhill which leads from the waterfall area back to the parking lot.
Recommended Route: Pick up the singletrack along the left side of the bike trail. Drop down on the bike trail again and follow it across the bridge. Trailhead starts just across the bridge on the left. Climb the switchbacks which begin the new section. Take the trails down a couple miles and loop back back on the same hillside. Climb the bike trail along Roaring Run and to more singletrack treats on the other side of the waterfall.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Boyce Park
Frick Park
Hartwood Acres
Deer Lakes Park
Bavington State Game Lands
Bradys Run Park

Cross Country Rider Summary: Different areas throughout.. some fire road climbs and decents on the front and back sides of the ridge along the river. A nice selection of tight single track with some rocks but few logs or other obstacles. They added some new trails in the summer of 05 and are supposidly going to open some new ones, so keep checking it out. Recommended Route: Try the new section on the opposite side of the roaring run bridge. make an immediate lift and follow the (currently) orange marked trail up the hill. The trail will switchback up the hill and then head through some mostly flat sections along the side of the hill. The loop is ~5 miles and comes out right where you entered the single track. There are some bridges across the mine run-off areas which are very stable. This new section is less technical than a lot of the other trails there. Other recommended trails in the same area: Boyce Park and Hartwood, even though its not that close

, from plum, pa Summary: this place is as good as it gets in Western PA and has it all (difficult and long climbs, wicked downhills, creek crossings, and tight and twisty singletrack). hit up the mosey inn (about 1/2 mile from trail head) after the ride and drink and eat with the few toothed locals. Recommended Route: race course is nice but the best singletrack is further back in the woods that I never would have found without Jon Erik. Other recommended trails in the same area: boyce park, frick park, seven springs, deer lakes park

, from Greensburg, PA Summary: I do the race every year. It is a climb-fest. And the downhills can really sneak up on you. It is truly a local gem. The race course has lots of technical stuff and is not a packed down, rockless superhighway. Intermediate skill level is required. To go fast, you have to have endurance, fast recovery and know how to pick a line. Recommended Route: Follow the race course. 50 yards from the pavilion turn left and go up into the woods. Or, continue a couple 100 yards down the RailTrail and turn left onto the gas well access road. Up, up, up. Other recommended trails in the same area: 16 miles away is Boyce Park in Monroeville.
