Cross Country Rider Summary: Had the pleasure of riding this trail again yesterday for the first time in a few years. Good news is its BETTER than I remembered! Lots of well maintained twisty single track with great flow. Was really dry up there though.
Its a mix between mostly decidious and some coniferous forests. The pine forest stuff has soft trails with cushhy pine needles on the ground. The other stuff has lots or rocks, but they are very flat here and are quite interesting. Generally, except for the climbs its fairly fast. The woods are quite open too, with low ground cover only.
The last section between the model plane field and the parking lot is killer! Its really fast and challenging.
If this was closer I would ride it much more often! Recommended Route: Start in at the dam and go around the lake.Keep turning right! Eventually you'll hit the cliffs and drop back down to the lake. Go out to the highway for a short run and then through the model airlplane park. Take the singletrack back to the parking lot.We couldn't find any maps at the park. Other recommended trails in the same area: Fell mountain, another great trail with more climbing. You can see this mountain as you pass Carbondale on Rt 6.

Weekend Warrior Summary: This is some of the best riding around, easily on par with Fell Mountain or Jim Thorpe. Trails are uncrowded and well maintained. Sections of rocky technical singletrack, rolling meadows, tight woods, creek crossings...just plain fun. It does get muddy after rain, but so does anywhere else. The lake is also great for canoeing or fishing and the picnic area is really nice as well. Recommended Route: Giant map posted in the parking lot is easy to remember. You can ride the west side of the lake or cross over the top of the dam to right the loop trails off the main trail. Other recommended trails in the same area: Merli Park (Fell Mtn.), Lackawanna State Park, 7-Tubs Natural Area, Mountain Top, Jim Thorpe, North Mountain, Hubbard Mountain

Weekend Warrior Summary: I first tried the Promton trail back in 1996 when I purchased my 1st mountain bike. The trail really was not known back then and therefore it was not even marked. The only reason I knew about it was because I worked for the Army Corps of Engineers at the park as a summer job during college. The trail has come along way since then thanks to volunteers and the people at Northeast Sports. For maps and info on the trail stop in and see them on Main St. in Honesdale. My 2 buddies and I tried this trail for the first time last week since 1996. All I can say is WOW! The trail system is excellent. Their are now clearly marked signs and trail markers to keep you going in the right direction. I do not think this trail is for the beginner. If you take a newbie on this trail you will basically turn them away from the sport of Mountain Biking all together. This trail is meant for the rider that wants very technical trails, uphill climbs, and rewarding rocky downhills. Make sure that you bring toolkits etc.. with your bikes. If you have a part on your bike that is ready to go, it definately will on this trail.(It has already cost my friend a tube, and a chain). For me the Prompton trail signifies the pinnacle of MTN Biking trails in NEPA. I don't think that you will ever get bored. If you do just wait until it rains heavy and the technicality level changes. Prompton keeps you pumped for the rest of the week and yearning for your next ride. Recommended Route: Start out across the dam and keep making righthand turns. Other recommended trails in the same area: N/A

Weekend Warrior Summary: It is some of the best mountain biking experiences I have had. If you enjoy single track, and technical riding, this is a place to check out. It's a well balanced park. In other words, there is some uphilling, but soon to be compensated with excellent downhills. It is well maintained and marked. I would never be able to understand or imagine how many hard working hours it took to build this park. This place is the best kept secret. Again prompton is a technical park and seems to be made that way. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of areas you will be able to turn on the after burners. Recommended Route: There are many routes to take and many branch offs. My recommendation is to start off by going over the damn. begin on the trail at the end of the damn. Unfortunately the begining is uphill. Just keep riding to the right and stay to the right the whole ride. after going through I think the 3rd open field make left at eagle pass. There should be a cool swimming hole there to cool off. From there you can take the partially paved road to 170S and do a little road ride back to the damn if pressed for time. If not hop back on the trail to the damn. Other recommended trails in the same area: I've rode Glenn Park in stroudsburg many times. Glenn Park can't wave a stick. To many hikers, dirt bikes and fire roads. It's worth the hour trip north.
