Demanding old mountain bike race course. 3 mile steep climb, mostly single track. Joerg Run rd.then single track (swartwood Trail) to Twelve Mile rd. Take pipeline east(left) only 200 yards or so You'll see an old path to your right travel through woods to a dirt road, right to tee. Left short distance(couple hundred yards)take left. On right you'll see NTL(blue markings) Big Trestle trail. Old railroad grade, all the wheelie and bunny hopping you can take. 5 miles or so sharp right(double blue markings) to a plush valley with a small stream (black bear country, have camera ready)about 3 miles to Lebo rd.(all downhill) Left to Whitman rd. Left and take first left(1oo feet) just after you cross over a small stream. Double track to first left about one half mile at an old 4x4 post with no sign(I dont know why). pick up blue markers. See a double blue turn right through thick laurel to several beaver dams(very active). Cross where you can to get back on Big trestle trail turn right. Straight through to Whitman rd.(not marked)left, to Twelve Mile rd.(marked)left, about 3 miles take Swartwood Trail(marked)on right, single track back to park.
Travel eighteen miles south on route 144 from route 6 in Galeton. Town of Oleona (17 mile mark) right on route 44 to Ole Bull State Park. Oleona Store has maps of the area and Park Office has maps of the course. Plenty of Parking with accommodations. A susquehannock Forest map would be very helpful and they are FREE at any Forest office and some Parks.
Summary: I'm lucky enough to have a cabin 3 miles away from this trail and have rode it numerous times. It's not the most technical riding but trail conditions vary enough to keep it very interesting. The "obscure" trail off of the pipeline, while short, is endless fun as well as the off-camber section once you turn off of the Big Trestle trail. Heading back down the pipeling towards then end is phat too with speeds 50+ on a worn out gravel road. Overall, I'm giving it my 5 flamin'pepperocinis for fun and proximity. Watch out for Boog! Grrrrrrrrrr

Summary: When you enter Potter county, you'll see a sign that says "God's Country." How true.
Went camping at Ole Bull State Park over the 4th of July weekend. (Try to get sites, 59 or 58, you'll be alone, away from the damn RVers and about 10 yards from the creek).
The trails start in the campground. Be sure to leave as early as you can and bring food and water for a whole day's worth of exercise. The base is about 1200' and there several sprawling miles of trails that ascend to about 2400'. Quite a workout.
Even during the holiday, I didn't see anyone else out on the trails. Ok, I saw a couple of hikers near the campground. Otherwise, you're really out by yourself. Didn't see any bears, but plenty of other animals, and I'm sure the bears were out there somewhere.
I really like the area, but I'm sure that the whole area of the state is probably not much different.
Recommended Route: You can't go wrong with the route posted above for excellent XC. If you want something a little more difficult, look for some of the side trails. They're tight single-track down (or up) the mountain faces. They looked a little unused though.

Summary: Spent a weekend exploring this untouched area of PA during the summer of '98 and loved every minute of it. If you consider yourself a well traveled mtn biker and haven't riden Ole Bull you should plan on visiting! Friendly locals, great hospitality and trails that will leave you bonking if you don't pack enough food for an all day ride. Once you get out on your freedom machine your not going to want to end the ride. Swimming in the creeks and rivers that suround this unspoiled paradise will help keep you refreshed and energized. Did you say like to climb? Not experiencing enough wildlife? Tired of too many poeple on the trail? Ole Bull is for you.
