Luzerne - Back Mtn Bike Path
5 reviews
 1.4 of 5

This trail was just built this year-this month in fact. It is a short trail, only about 2 miles and goes from Luzerne to the Back mountain. It will be expanded in the future and it is a former railbed (rails to trails).

Ridden Trail:
Once a year

Summary:
Super relaxing (in other words, lame-lame-lame): this rail trail is for beginners and their wife & kids at best. This trail was much better before the "rails-to-trails' movement squashed it flat and made it ten feet wide. Similar to the Lehigh rail-trail. Still the best way to get from the valley to the Back-Mountain, though! Also great pizza at bothe ends of the trail.

Recommended Route:
Can't miss it! This trail is great for beginners, kids and rest days.

I ride this trail almost everytday to get down to kingston. It is the worst trail there is. Like the one guy said pathwaY WOULD better suit it for a name. They made is completely flat. As an addtional annoyance, they put stone down. Yrtti,16

Ridden Trail:

Summary:
Excellent trail or "pathway" as some like to refer to it as, for beginners. Ground is made up of mostly packed gravel for about 2/3 of the trail. Even though it is more of a beginner trail it is a safer connection from Luzerne\Kingston than taking the highway to the Back Mountain. Also, when you get off of the trail in Trucksville there are more trails that are for the intermediate to in some cases advanced riders.

Summary:
The trail is new this year and is for people who may be looking for a short trail that they have never ridden before. It isn't an overly difficult trail and proceeds from Luzerne to the Back mountain area (uphill ride) and then returns to Luzerne. Good trail to ride if you want a short ride that is close to home and when the whole trail is completed it will be excellent--about 30 miles of trails!.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Can give the Kirby Park trails a shot. They are mostly for beginners but aren't crowded and you can set your own distance and pace.
