Ridden Trail: Every few months

Weekend Warrior Summary: These trails are comfortably contained within my top ten favorite places to ride near Pittsburgh. Laurel Mountain is one of the most challenging technical trails around. Your tires will hardly touch the dirt because the tails are virtually an endless rock garden with the occasional root or stump for variety. This place has no dramatic elevation changes, so there's no fast downhills, but there are many miles of easy pace tecnical riding. If the natural terrain isn't challenging enough there are at least a dozen log piles which range from calf to chest high to work you over.
The trail network is well marked, and in some cases even rated for difficulty. However, that won't help you to much if you don't have a trail map. This link is helpful: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/maps/linnrun_mini.pdf
Because of the vast amount of rocks, the trails hold up much better under wet conditions than other area trails. Ride these trails once a week and watch how fast your technical skills improve. The place is awesome! Recommended Route: Start at the parking lot behind the warming hut and work your way around to Wolf Rocks and back. Get some nice air on Summit trail behind the warming hut. Other recommended trails in the same area: Ohiopyle

Bear Run Nature Center

, from johnstown PA Summary: i love this area! the are fast sections peppered with huge log pile crossings, tough technical sections and riding around and between the rocks is just unreal, downhill at the end is trechorous on a rainy day like when i was there, just a great place to ride! Recommended Route: dont know trails real well myself, all ive ridden are great Other recommended trails in the same area: if u live anywhere near johnstown try Highland Park near the Armory and Driver's license center for a technical ride(see reviews on this site for directions)

, from Latrobe, PA Summary: Don't understand what those two cats from Ohio were talking about, but they obviously missed the party. Awsome XC trails & plenty of them. We have been riding the trails for two years on a weekly basis and are still finding trails tucked in here and there between the major biking trails. For a technical downhill try oak grove trail, just watch out for downed trees. Recommended Route: Park at the top and go explore - you will evetually com out to the road or end up at the bottom. Other recommended trails in the same area: Go see the fine people at Speedgoat - they know theie stuff

, from Latrobe, PA Summary: I recommend SPEEDGOAT bicycle shop in Loughlintown at the bottom of the mountain for any of your needs...the people in there are gerat and really know their stuff. Recommended Route: I Recommend Wolf Rocks if you want a fairly easy ride that comes out to a SWEET lookout point. Summit Trail is nice to warm-up on. It's got a little technical stuff to get the legs moving and okay downhills to get the adrenaline started. From this trail you can access many other trails. Most are marked, and they are all good...you can ride for hours. Bill ALberts trail has some really really really nice rock beds. I learned to ride up here and I go back all the time.

, from OHIO Summary: I don't know what your idea of technical single track is but it is VERY different than us in Ohio. Wolf Rock was boring and moderately easy, and FLAT, FLAT, SRAIGTH, FLAT, BORING. No sharp switchback, no fast downhills, and no leg burning climbs. Most of it is wide trail, not my idea of single track. The above review was consistent of all the trail on the laurel Highalands trail system. Don't waste your time. Stay in Ohio and hit, GOOD, FUN, CHALLENGING, and TECHNICAL trails like Vultures Knob, Velo Z, and Mohican. Recommended Route: NONE! Other recommended trails in the same area: NONE, Stay Home!
