Summary:
So.. i made the trip to the park on a beutiful early spring day. i was very disapointed to see that the trails were rated as CLOSED for the day. bummer! i had driven 50 minutes from lancaster, and i wasnt about to drive home w/out any action on a day like this so i took my chances and rode anyway. i started at the boat stage area and made my way up trail 3. the trails on this side of the lakes are wide and steep. a great workout zone. there were more than a few downed trees across the trails but i was able to scramble my bike and myself threw/over them. anyway, i explored trail 3 and all its workings and did my best to not runover the loving couple who were slowly walking down the trail. nothing especially technical but lots of beutifull views and some moments of speed (nice descent on trial 3). i soon decided to keep exploring and made the trip around lake williams using trails 3,4,2 and 3 again. like most people will testify, these trails are great xc fun and offer breif moments of tight/technical stuff, spectacular views of the lake, and a leg workout worthy of the trip. on my next visit i will go around lake redman and tackle the more technical singletrack. my 2 hr ride went unabated and i was never acosted for riding while the trails were officially closed. would recomen this place to anyone at any level.

Summary:
Lake Redman has some more of the challenging trails for intermdiate/advanced riders. Trail# 5 consists of tight, twisty singletrack. Trail# 7 is the most technical trail with a tunnel to pass through, a couple of steam crossings, rocky & steep climbs and some technical descents to add to the mix! On the other side of the main road, Lake Williams isn't as technical but there's some good climbing to be found. Beginner riders will find Lake Williams less technical but still challenging due to the climbs! Lake Redman/Lake Willaims or "The Lakes" as they are known offer a variety of trails for all XC riders from Beginner to Expert. Downhillers and free-riders may not find much to their liking here but I know it's at the top of my list of favorite places to ride!

Recommended Route:
Take any route you want because all the trails at Lake Redman/Lake Williams are both fun and challenging! My personal favorites are Trail# 5 (The Goat Trail) and Trail# 7 (Seventh Heaven).

Other recommended trails in the same area:
On the Lake Redman side, #5 offers some truly awesome singletrack! YAMBA recently re-routed 2 badly eroded fall-line sections on this trail and also built a bridge on the one new section. Trail# 7 is the newest trail with it being completed by YAMBA in June of 2001. On the Lake Williams side, the Log Trail and the Vietnam Trail are two favorites of many of the local riders. Anyone interested in riding at the Lakes can check out the York Area Mountain Bike Association's website at www.YAMBA.org for rides that are going on!

Summary:
In all honesty, having ridden west coast (southern cali and tahoe), I find the trails at Redman/Williams to be some of the most enjoyable. There are trails that are suitable for every skill level. Those who claim there is no singletrack have obviously not explored the park to its full potential. There are many sections of highly technical steep single track littered with rocks and roots, as well as wide fireroads that you could drive a bus through. One thing to be aware of as mentioned below is that the trails are closed to mtn bikers when there is heavy rainfall. In conclusion, for a great cross country workout with enough technical downhills to fulfill your adrenaline rush, you can't go wrong with this park. Esp at this time of the year, there are wild blackberries and strawberries along the trail that you can enjoy on your breaks! Lastly, wear eye protection unless you want to be digging gnats and flies out of your eyes. Watch out for horse poop.

Recommended Route:
Don't remember all the numbers, but park your car at the parking lot across from Lake Redman. Then cross the road to the gravel path. Take the 1 trail up, veer right onto the 7 trail, through the tunnel, up the other side, and keep riding. You'll find your way eventually...

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Rocky Ridge (can be a real torture esp when you hit all the rock beds. stick to the upper trails if you don't like getting your brain jostled or ride on a full suspension bike)

Summary:
I rode trails 3 and 4, they are not to technical, but it does give you a good hill work out. Be careful when you cross the roads.. a trail off 3 has a very steep decent then you end up in the middle of the highway. Also it looks like a storm had come through recently and a few trees were across the trail.

Recommended Route:
NOTE: The Directions are old... Exit 14 off of 83 or OLD Exit 4. ... the name of the street near the flower shop is Church St.

Summary:
This isn't the hardest trail I've been on, but it is an excellent trail for the area, and a good xc workout. Lots of short uphills and downhills. Trail 7 is byfar the best trail. It's the most technical with 1 or 2 rock sections, steep climbs and steeper descents and a couple small logs to hop. I usually ride trail 1 to trail 7, so if you ride that direction, watch when you come out the other end of the tunnel for the dropoff unless you want to endo into the creek. Trail 1 has some tricky switchbacks that are cool and trail 5 has a couple sketchy sections. Lake Williams side isn't as technical, but it's good none the less. Overall, it's a very good xc trail.

Recommended Route:
I usually do the full loop (lake redman and lake williams - about 12 miles). I park at the boat launch and hed up trail 3, over George Street to trail 4, left on Water Street to trail 2, over George Street to trail 1, to trail 7, to trail 6, along Spartan Road, across Hess Farm Road to trail 5 and back to the boat launch.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Mechaux, Rocky Ridge, Tuckahoe, Codorus
