Green Lane

The parking lot is big and it can be hard to find the trailhead. The trail is mainly for horses, so look for the markings with a picture of a horse.

The trail is made up of loose rocks and not vey fun for the first mile. You will cross a road and have to find the trail again (not very obvios where to go). The rest of the trail stays close to the reservoir with some nice views. The trail is not too technical most of the time, but has some treacherous parts. There are a few streams that feed into the resorvoir that have a steep downhill followed by a steep uphill that can be tough.

Cross Knights Road bridge over the reservoir and continue on the other side. Some of the trail is deep gravel for horses and sucks to ride through, but doesn't last for long. Honeysuckle trail is a very cool 1-2 mile stretch of the ride. At this point you can catch the red trail as well. Take Knight Rd to 29, make a right, make a right on Hill Rd and go a crazy steep hill to get back to the parking lot.

Summary:
Yes the Blue trail is closed to bikes and this is the best trail in the park. It’s a very nice hike by the way.

The RED trail is a mix of gravel paths, double-track along grassy hills and some moderate single track through cedars and along the lake. I would classify the entire trail as beginner to intermediate with almost no technical logs, jumps...

Trail impressions:
- Nice trail for a moderate non-technical ride.
- Lots of horse $*it. It's everywhere in the summer and not as bad in the colder months. Get use to it because it's unavoidable!
- Trails take quite a while to dry out. This will be one of the last places to dry out after heavy rain.
- The park really seems to embrace the equestrians, heck they even have their own campground and jumps set-up along the way.
- While the park doesn't discourage bike riding, they don't mention the word "bike" in their entire brochure and it seems like they are just putting up with mountain bikers and would rather us not be there.

So overall if you want a fairly easy ride with a few ups and downs, roots, rock… and don't mind dodging horse flop, this is a nice 10 mile ride.

Recommended Route:
Turn off Rt 29 onto Knight Rd and the parking area is about 200 yrd on the left.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Wissahickon, Pennypack, Highrocks, Corecreek, Middle Run DE, French Creek.

Summary:
The BLUE TRAIL HAS BEEN CLOSED! This is really bad news because it was by far the best trail in the park. For a while the signage indicating that it was closed was lacking, so you could fake it and say you didn't know. Now it is marked as closed EVERYWHERE. Apparently some kid killed himself a few years back so they think the rest of us should not ride at all. I guess we should feel lucky that they don't apply that same logic to cars.

If you are an experienced rider, I don't know that I would recommend even coming to Green Lane for the other trails. There is very little technical on the other trails and what little there is only lasts a mile or so. It is still a good place for beginners, particularly if they are fond of horses__t.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
It is a bit of a trek, but the new trails up in Allentown at Salisbury Walking Purchase are good for the technical rider.
Also up that way are the trails on Lehigh mountaintop, which have some crazy jumps and other man-made obstacles that will challenge your expertise.
Betzwood used to be OK for intermediate riders, though I admit I haven't been there in a while so it may not be as good as I remember it.

Summary:
I have to disagree with the folks that are saying this trail is hard to follow. If you ride the entire 10+ mile loop you will cross Knight rd a few times but it's easy to get back on. I think it's a nice mix with technical loops all along the way, some decent hill climbs, and nice views of the lake.

Recommended Route:
I've only ever started from the parking lot on Knight rd closest to rt 29. We followed the maps recommended direction and start the ride directly across the street form the lot. That

Summary:
Rode there for 1st time as an after work ride with my girlfriend. We only rode half the blue trail and honeysuckle trail because I read the damn map wrong. She is a beginner and this place was perfect for her. There are no real big hills and not very techinical riding. The honeysuckle trail is awesome but very short, like 1 mile. We rode it back and forth 3 times which made it a little longer. It reminds me of Tsali in North Carolina. Off camber trail next to water. Pretty sweet rolling terrain with some challenging roots. I want to ride this again and cover the entire area. Someone local should carve some more singletrack and this place will be even better. But it is a great after work ride for an advanced rider. (I ride Wissahickon in Roxborough (Philly) 3-5 times a week and need a break. The rocks are killing me!)

This site needs to add more rider descriptions. I do not fall in any of the those categories.... Someone send a memo or something...

Summary:
I rode the Red Trail today--there was no one else there. The main trail is 10 miles long, but there are many singletrack trails that branch off every which way. There are twisty sections, sharp downhills and climbs, some rocks, roots, logs, nothing too severe. The main trails are sometimes loose gravel and sometimes hardpack. The offshoots are all hardpack. This is one of the few parks that actually has "bicycle" signs on their trails. At most other parks the only way you know you can bike is by the absence of a "no biking" sign. Other reviews complain that it's so boring and that there's loads of horse manure. So if you're such proficient riders, why not just jump over the piles! There was plenty of manure today--so what? For those of us who are either beginners, or old, fat, out of shape, these trails, like Pennypack and White Clay, for example, offer plenty of challenge. The "experts" can go do their 20 foot drops elsewhere and leave this park nice and empty for us "beginners." We wouldn't want you to be bored.

Recommended Route:
For the Red Trail, north on 29, left on Knight Rd. (new housing development on right side of 29) Left into parking lot. A trail map is posted on the bulletin board.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Perkiomen Trail begins at Green Lane
